Ms. Good has been working on the yearbook for two years now, highlighting her experience in graphic design. When she was offered the role, she accepted it happily. But there are things that she would want to change about how the yearbook is being run.
One thing Ms. Good wants to do is lower the population of her biggest class so that she can have “one class that does the photography and another one that does the design of the yearbook.” This way she can keep a steady workflow and manage her classes more effectively. With her graphic design knowledge, she can elevate the yearbooks presence and appeal. Ms. Good also wants to make taking the journalism class a requirement to do the yearbook, so students can further develop their writing skills.
With Ms. Good running the yearbook, she also has access to all the past yearbooks from the 70s to now, with some major differences being a language class and club that we no longer have, German and Bowling Club. Today we have clubs like The Paper Cut, Robotics and Book Club. A sport we no longer have that they did have is gymnastics.
Most kids in that class find out that they actually really like photography the more they are in there. The yearbook class is also a good way for students to discover something they might have even known they were good at, like photography and graphic design.
Ms. Good is also a very busy teacher, doing many other things like teaching the African American Literature (AAL) class, an English class with 39 kids, while being an entrepreneur. Her room is also a welcoming space for everyone in the morning with dimmed lighting and a trash hoop to practice throwing paper ball in to.
Ms. Good’s favorite part about yearbook is doing the senior quotes for that year. There are other things students love as well, like buying their own page. Students who are a part of a sport or club are part of a group picture and each sport gets its own page. This year’s theme is the dark, dingy, and grainy but also nostalgic 2000s era. Ms. good incorages any student who enjoys graphic design or photography to try the yearbook out next year.
