We concluded the year with a fun and exciting assembly, which reminded us of the memories we had and what to look forward to in the future. For Freshmen, it was their first year at Sahuaro and in high school, so they still have three years to go and experience all they want to know and understand. For Sophomores, they will have to prepare for the upcoming Junior year, which they will face and all the challenges it may pose.
For Juniors, this marks the beginning of their last year of high school, during which they will strive to achieve their goals for what may come after their Senior year is over. For Seniors, this is their last year, and they have even less time left, so they get to move on with their lives and show the world who they are proudly.
The assembly started with the National Anthem sung by the choir as everyone stood and remained silent until it was over. After the national anthem, our principal told us all about the passing of one of our fellow students, Cassandra Tomlinson, who will forever be missed by friends and family.
Just a few minutes later, the fun began to start as we heard about our top ten students from all grades. We celebrated all forty of those students for trying their best in their classes and achieving high scores. Then, we got to see the dance team perform as they rev up the more exciting events.
The next performance is done by our school’s colour guard as they wove together a story and a wonderful performance.
We celebrated all of the spring sports and their team members who worked hard to get them going strong. As we watched them work harder each day to do their best in games, we got to see how far they’ve come. We’ll continue to watch them shine as they pass on the torch to the new players of next year, or watch them again as long as they want to play these sports.
Then, the orchestra, accompanied by a couple of band members, played music for everyone to hear. The orchestra played Mamma Mia inside the gym, and the marching band played outside as people were entering and exiting the gym.
To kick off the games, two teams tried to get a blow-up mattress across the gym floor, and whichever team got it across to both sides first won. For our second, and final, game, four teams used a basket and a skateboard to race to their end of the court. One player lay down on the skateboard and held the basket while the other guided them around to put the balls under their baskets to bring back.
For the last event, which seemed to be a fan favourite, a real band came in and performed for all of the students. The band that played was Znora, and people from all grades enjoyed the show!
