Senior assassins happen every year in Sahuaro for the senior class to participate. This year is just the same, with the seniors of Sahuaro participating. I interviewed participant, Noah Alvarez, and he dove into the basic understanding of what Senior Assassin is. Noah said, “There’s an app called “splashin” and you have a target with their location, and where they are at, at all times, and when you have them as a target, you need to find them and eliminate them with a water gun.”
“Initially, when it started, there were 63 players in the competition; now there are only 29 remaining, and to participate, there is a 5-dollar admission fee,” he told me. There is a single revive for 20 dollars to use wisely, just in case of an unexpected elimination.
There is also immunity in the form of swim goggles on the participant’s neck or head, which means that if you have them on, you are safe from getting eliminated wherever you may be. But goggles can only keep you so safe because there are purge days that remove that immunity regardless of the goggles, which means even if you had goggles on at the time someone sprayed you with their water gun, you would still be eliminated.
I asked Noah if there are also immunity locations, and of course, there are some forms of immunity locations, such as school, where you have a 5-minute grace period to leave the school grounds once someone has left the entrance gate. There is also immunity at the place of employment.
And the last place of immunity is your house, but your house could or couldn’t be a location of immunity, which means your house is only as safe as your parents make it, due to the way the immunity can only last if your parents make it allowed for the people hunting you to enter your home and eliminate you.
I asked Noah about his eliminations so far, and he’s gotten 5 people out of the tournament so far, but that does not mean he’s had no setbacks so far. He’s been eliminated once already, but bought his single revive, and he is on no more chances for failure.
Along with the purges, there are also bounties. Bounties can be placed by anyone to be put on anyone, and the way that bounties work is that once that bounty is placed, your swim goggle immunity is useless, and if you get somebody with a bounty, you get more points. An elimination with no bounty is 100 points, and a bounty elimination is 150 points.
Following the points, there is a points system that you can use to spend your hard-earned points. There are bounties like was previously mentioned, and those are 200 points to purchase, and there is, vanish for 100 points, purge for 600 points, trace for 100 points, immunity for 200 points, and clear bounty for 350 points.
As fun as a competition Senior Assassin may be, there is also a level of safety that must be recognized. To be safe from any minor trouble, please do not have water guns out during school hours. Due to issues that could happen, there should be common sense to not wave your water guns around school, spraying random kids, teachers, or anyone else. There have been cases in the past where kids have been detained, arrested, and even charged with felonies.
