As summer approaches, Sahuaro High School is gearing up for its summer school program, which is set to run from May 27th to June 24th. This year, the program is held at Sabino High School due to important renovations taking place at our campus. While some changes are in store, the core objective remains the same: helping students who need to recover credits for their academic progress.
The summer school will be divided into two sessions. The first session runs from May 27 to June 24, while the second session will take place from June 10 to June 24. Classes will be held from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
Enrollment for summer school is competitive this year due to limited classroom space. Therefore, not all students will be able to participate. Priority is given to students based on their academic needs. “Priority 1: Any Senior with a credit deficiency,” according to the flyer posted in the counselor’s office. This is crucial for seniors who may find themselves at risk of not graduating. Similarly, Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen with deficiencies in key subjects such as Math or English are prioritized, provided they meet specific criteria.
For those interested in attending, it’s highly recommended that students speak with their counselors to determine if they qualify for summer school. Flyers containing more detailed information about summer school registration and eligibility will be available in the counseling office.
Transportation will be provided for students who may have difficulty traveling to Sabino High School. Buses will depart from Sahuaro at 7:15 AM, reaching Sabino by 7:45 AM. After classes, the buses will return to Sahuaro at 2:10 PM, ensuring students can commute safely and reliably. This transportation service aims to alleviate any barriers that might prevent students from attending summer school.
One important note for prospective summer school attendees: while many students may look forward to taking accelerated classes during this time to get ahead, that option will not be available this year. “The only classes offered right now are to recover credit from classes that you have failed,” according to Ms. Wayne. This district policy focuses on helping students recover lost credits rather than advancing them in their academic journey at this time.
In addition to educational support, Sahuaro will provide free breakfast and lunch to all summer school participants. This initiative not only ensures that students are well-nourished and ready to learn but also makes attending summer school more accessible to all families.
Sahuaro High School’s summer school aims to ensure every student can succeed. Make sure to connect with counselors and gather all the necessary information to take advantage of our resources, so that you won’t have to take a credit recovery period during the following year.
