As Sahuaro’s junior class prepares to elect its next president, three candidates, Allyzon Nunez, Emma Hogan, and Promise Jallayu, are stepping up with different experiences, goals, and visions for the school’s future. Each candidate shares a strong commitment to improving student life and representing their peers.
Allyzon is motivated by a desire to represent her class with both dedication and kindness. She emphasizes the importance of creating a welcoming environment where all students feel included. One of her main goals is to spread positivity throughout our campus. She believes school is a place people should look forward to attending.
Known for her bubbly and kindhearted personality, Allyzon believes that her character, along with her academic efforts and extracurricular involvement, makes her a strong fit for the role. Balancing school, soccer, and a job has helped her develop a sense of responsibility and leadership. She hopes to leave a lasting impact by encouraging others to be more compassionate and love one another. She plans to, “…leave endless positivity for a better community.”
Emma brings significant experience to the race, having served in student council since her freshman year and as president for the past two years. She says her involvement in student council has not only been enjoyable but has also prepared her for the increasing responsibilities of junior year leadership.
Emma’s main focus is on student involvement and school spirit. She plans to make activities more inclusive and enjoyable for everyone, and she also aims to improve the bathrooms and overall appearance of our campus. Because she is well connected with a lot of students, Emma believes she can easily gather input and ensure that student voices are heard in decision making. “I also just want to try and make it a more comfortable and fun place for people,” she shared.
Promise, who was encouraged by a large portion of student council to run, is focused on making meaningful changes within the school. She wants to improve school spirit, which she feels has declined, by listening to what students actually need and delivering it. In addition, she hopes to support other clubs, improve school facilities, and help students find the resources they need. She is actively involved in the “Beautify Sahuaro” committee, which works behind the scenes to clean up and keep our campus beautiful. Through this work, she has already contributed to making the school more vibrant, with plans for future projects like murals.
Promise claims that, “I’m open to see each and every student worries and problems,” which shows how considerate she is of not just the changes she wants to make around our school, but everyone else’s as well.
As the election goes on, students have three dedicated candidates to choose from, each offering their own ideas on how to improve Sahuaro High School.
