Smosh Pit on YouTube has a series called “Smosh Reads Reddit Stories,” and it’s the first series I’ve been invested in since listening to Anything Goes, formerly known as Stupid Genius, in 2019. This series is a recorded podcast that shows the video recordings on YouTube and the voice recordings on Spotify and other podcast apps. The series first premiered on November 24th, 2022, on YouTube, with the first episode being titled, “The Most Unhinged Holiday Horror Stories.”
The episodes follow host Shayne Topp as he reads Reddit submissions from real people across a multitude of categories. Not only does he read current stories, but he also reads past ones from up to over a decade ago. Every episode has 2 co-hosts seated on the couch next to him, reacting to the stories as he reads them. The co-hosts consist of other Smosh cast members, such as Courtney Miller, Angela Giarratana, Amanda Lehan-Canto, Chanse McCrary, Arasha Lalani, and Trevor Evarts.
New episodes premiere every Saturday and are around an hour long each. Some of the story categories include: relationships, roommates, friends, siblings, co-workers, LGBTQ, holidays, vacations, and niche subreddits with titles like “Am I The Villain?” Shayne and his co-hosts react to these stories and provide commentary, advice, and even answers to the question, “Am I the Villain?” They also premiere specialty marathon episodes around the beginning of the new calendar year, where they compile a best of one category, and read anywhere from 4 to 6 hours worth of content.
As for how it helps me study, it is the perfect background noise for my homework. For the past 4 hours, I’ve been doing homework, and this podcast is the only thing I’ve been listening to. Since a little after fall break of this past school year, I saw a video for Smosh Reads Reddit Stories on my YouTube recommended, I clicked on it, and my fate was sealed from there. Ever since then, I have noticed a positive trend in my grades since I began listening to this podcast instead of, say, scrolling on TikTok or X. To top it all off, Smosh is going on tour this year! Smosh Reads Reddit Stories Live! will be performing where it is listed below:
Denver, Colorado: April 16th, Bellco Theater – 7:30 PM
Los Angeles, California: May 6th, Netflix is a Joke, The Orpheum Theater – 9:45 PM & May 8th, Netflix is a Joke, Saban Theater – 7:00 PM
London, United Kingdom: June 13th, Eventim Apollo – 7:30 PM
Boston, Massachuchets: July 18th, Chevalier Theater – 7:00 PM
Montreal, Canada: July 22nd, Just For Laughs, Salle Wilfrid Pelletier – 7:00 PM
I even listen to the podcast while driving, reading, in the shower, and just for fun! It really is that addictive. I look forward to getting out of work on Saturdays, listening to new Reddit stories, and doing my diamond painting. The day I catch up with all the episodes is the day I’ll start rewatching them all, because I can’t get enough!
