People magazine has declared John Krasinski the Sexiest Man Alive for 2024. His wife, Emily Blunt, said she’d wallpaper the house with the cover if he won. “It won’t be weird at all,” Krasinski said.

Krasinski inherits the title from Grey’s Anatomy actor Patrick Dempsey, who was named the 2023 Sexiest Man Alive. He was announced as the recipient of the honorable title on Tuesday’s episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The magazine also posted an image of its new cover on social media.

“Just immediate blackout, actually. Zero thoughts,” Krasinski said. “Other than maybe I’m being punked. That’s not how I wake up, thinking, ‘Is this the day that I’ll be asked to be the Sexiest Man Alive?’ And yet it was the day you guys did it. You guys have really raised the bar for me.”

Krasinski is most recognized for playing Jim Halpert in The Office for nine seasons. He also directed and acted in the 2018 film A Quiet Place, featuring Emily Blunt, and later directed the sequel in 2020.

Undeniably, the People’s Choice caught some people off guard on social media. Some users proposed that Jonathan Bailey or Paul Mescal were more deserving of the title.

A user shared on X, “John Krasinski is People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2024…Another devastating Tuesday night in November.”

“Is this for real?” another fan wrote. 

While some fans are outraged, John Krasinski’s co-stars from The Office are excited for him.

One of his co-stars, Kate Flannery, said, “It’s about time!”
