As we approach the last quarter of the 2026 school year, grades are being entered for progress reports, and our senior class is excitedly preparing to graduate. This time of year emphasizes the importance of raising students’ grades, keeping them on track, and ensuring they have a solid understanding of their coursework, whether it is prepping for college, future careers, or just life ahead. Teachers and staff have noticed that some students may require additional help and more time to complete homework and classwork.
To support students, one of Sahuaro’s many dedicated counselors, Mrs. Bradley, has recently set up a tutoring program that is open to all students, regardless of their grade level. This program officially began on Thursday, February 19.
The tutoring sessions will be scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays after school, from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM. Students are required to sign up in advance, preferably before 1:15 PM on the same day. The sign-up process is quick and simple; it only requires indicating which subject help is needed and the student’s grade level. While students can request a specific teacher, that preference may not always be met; teachers will do their best, given time and class size. This program serves both as a tutoring service and a credit recovery opportunity.
Tutoring will be provided by about seven different teachers: Mr. Cutler, Mrs. Barley, Mrs. Gallego, Mrs. Garcia, Mrs. Knippen, Mrs. Sanderson, and Mr. Guzman, and will all be located in Room 330 in the math hallway.
Mrs. Bradley notes that the goals of the tutoring program include providing academic support beyond the school day, helping students strengthen their skills and improve their performance, fostering responsibility and effective learning habits, and even offering additional opportunities for credit recovery.
Student Lillian Lucero, while looking into joining the program, says, “I am thankful that there are opportunities to complete work after school, as a busy senior, I need more time than usual, especially approaching the end of the year”.
After these tutoring classes on Tuesday and Thursday, teachers will provide a summary page detailing the topics covered and the students who participated.
Ms. Bradley says, “We are hoping that students take this opportunity to use the tutoring program to get help, to improve their grades. We think and hope this program will be a benefit to many of our students.”
For any further questions about this program, Ms. Bradley encourages students to ask or visit her in the counselor’s office. You can sign up using the QR code on the tutoring posters around the school, as well as the one uploaded to the article.
