Between late Saturday night, January 31st, and early morning, February 1st, TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mother went missing from her Catalina home. According to PBS News, family members dropped off Nancy Guthrie at her home, where she lived alone, at 9:30 pm Saturday, and at 1:47 am on Sunday, her doorbell camera was disconnected and removed with no footage saved. At 2:12 am, movement around her home was detected, and at 2:28 a.m her pacemaker was disconnected from her phone.
Guthrie’s family called 911 at 12:03 p.m to report Nancy missing after she failed to show up to her usual Sunday morning church service. By 12:15 pm, investigators were on the scene with drones and search dogs. Police reported having found blood on the front porch, confirming it belonged to Nancy Guthrie, who takes daily medication to survive. Reporters noted that due to Nancy’s poor health conditions and limited mobility, it’s not likely she left on her own.
With the connection of time stamps and blood found on the scene, it is believed Nancy Guthrie was kidnapped or abducted; her injuries and why this has happened are unknown. Savannah Guthrie, alongside her siblings, released a video statement pleading for their mother’s return safely, sharing their concerns about her medical status, her family, who are desperately missing her, and they lastly shared that they are ready to talk to whoever is connected to the disappearance.
The FBI has recently offered a $50,000 reward for sincere information leading to an arrest and announced they’re taking any ransom demands seriously. Savannah Guthrie was adamant on knowing her mother was safe and alive before moving forward on any ransom, saying, “However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated. We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her.”
Six days have passed since Nancy Guthrie was taken from her home in the middle of the night, no suspect or person of interest has been named, and Savannah Guthrie has shared, “We will not rest.” Searches around her home are still ongoing, ransom notes are being carefully investigated, and worry has not slowed down for the 84-year-old Arizona resident.
