Saturday, January 24th, at 7:00 pm, an estimated 20,000 people attended the UFC match at T-Mobile Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Two fighters, Paddy ‘The baddy’ Pimblett and Justin ‘The Highlight’ Gaethje, fought in the Octagon with results that left the MMA world divided.
Some criticized the technical, sometimes soppy nature of the fight, mentioning an eye poke to Pimblett from Gaethje during the first round. Also noted was sloppy striking between both fighters.
Regardless of the division, it was a unanimous decision that Justin Gaethje was victorious. The fight stats include two knockdowns, 200/313 strikes landed, 144/254 significant strikes landed, and 3/3 successful takedowns. For Gaethje, this is another win, bringing his fight record to 27-5-0.
Paddy Pimblett’s stats were zero knockdowns, 170/326 strikes landed, 156/311 significant strikes landed, and 0/5 successful takedowns. Comparing Pimblett’s underperforming stats to Justin Gaethje made for a unanimous decision, giving Gaethje the victory and breaking Pimblett’s 9-win streak.
In comments following the fight, both fighters expressed immense mutual respect, with Pimblett saying, “There is no man I’d rather lose to than [Gaethje]. He is someone I loved watching growing up, and it shows why he is a legend.”
