According to the Secret Service, an unidentified man has been put under police custody for property damage in Cincinnati, Ohio, at Vice President JD Vance’s residence. At the time of the incident, the Vance family was not in their home, as stated by the US Secret Service and the Vice President’s spokesperson.
The vice president posted on X, saying, “I appreciate everyone’s well wishes about the attack at our home. As far as I can tell, a crazy person tried to break in by hammering the windows. I’m grateful to the Secret Service and the Cincinnati police for responding quickly. We weren’t even home as we had returned already to DC.”
The Cincinnati police had scanner audio where they heard a Secret Service worker call about a possible break-in at the house. Later on, the audio played that the Cincinnati police were able to catch and put the suspect into custody, where he is currently being held until further action is taken.
As of this moment, the alleged perpetrator is to be interviewed about the attempted break-in and is being held accountable for local trespassing and vandalism charges. Authorities are currently investigating to see if the man was hoping to cause harm to JD Vance and his family. As of now, the man has been recently identified as 26-year-old William DeFoor. According to USA Today, DeFoor is now also facing charges for, “destroying government property, engaging in physical violence against anyone or anything on restricted building or grounds, and assaulting, resisting or impeding federal officers.”
JD Vance had owned that home since 2018, when he paid 1.4 million dollars for it. The Vance family would visit that home over the weekends and were able to leave right before the attempted break-in occurred.
