Sahuaro High School students, teachers, and staff are helping others in the community through Clothing Drives, the Salvation Army Angel Tree, the Cougar Closet, the Food Drive, the Humanity United club, and in the School-to-Work program. They all have the end goal of helping others and making life easier for people who need that extra support, especially during the holidays.
One of the projects is the Clothing Drive, which collects sweaters, blankets, and warm clothes. These items are sent to homeless shelters so people who don’t have a place to stay can keep warm during the winter. Even donating one item can help someone feel a little more comfortable and cared for. Donations can be dropped off in room 203.
Another big project is the Salvation Army Angel Tree. This project is all about giving clothes, toys, and other gifts to kids and seniors who can’t afford them. All donations must be submitted by December 3rd during your 2nd-period class or in Ms. Trujillo’s room so that the gifts can be distributed on December 19th. They received a tree with numerous Angel tree tags on it for students and teachers to grab from. This project is special because it makes the holidays brighter for families who might not be able to celebrate otherwise. Knowing that you could donate something that could make someone’s holiday happier is a really good feeling.
We also have the Cougar Closet, which lets people donate new or gently used clothes. These clothes are then given to students and families who need them. The closet is open during school hours, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Ex Ed Department. It’s a simple way to help people without them feeling embarrassed or stressed about money.
The Food Drive is another important project sponsored by the Ex Ed Department. They collect canned fruits and vegetables, soups, spices, pasta, rice, milk, and other foods. All donations go to Room 400. These items are sent to a food bank, where families who don’t have enough to eat can get help. Food is something everyone needs, so even small donations can make a big difference.
Another project, the School-to-Work program, helps students with disabilities transition from the classroom to real-world jobs. It gives them support and a way to stay connected with employment opportunities. The room number is 309, and these students also help volunteer at the food bank.
Lastly, Humanity United collects warm clothes like socks, hats, blankets, and coats. This project lasts until December 15th and is run by Ms. Tuli and Ms. Goods. These items help people stay warm during the cold weather. All of these community service projects show how much our school cares about helping others. By donating or volunteering, students can make a huge difference. Even small actions can help create a better, kinder community for everyone.
These projects help people who are struggling by providing them with food, clothing, and other necessities. All these drives are equally important because they bring people together and make a positive impact on everyone involved.
