Astroworld Festival Takes A Fatal Turn
November 15, 2021
What was supposed to be a day full of fun and excitement quickly took a negative turn.
On Friday, November 5th, rapper Travis Scott headlined at his Astroworld Festival. The festival took place in Houston Texas with an astonishing number of people attending (50,000). With this number of attendees, you need a huge venue so that everyone can fit comfortably. However, this venue was not fit for 50,000 people.
When Travis Scott came onto the stage, mass chaos erupted. Everyone from the back started to push forward to the front causing little space in-between people. Everyone was getting crushed to the point where people couldn’t even move and/or breathe. Numerous people in the crowd passed out and got injured. 1st responders did everything they could to try and help people, but there were so many people crowded together that it was difficult and near impossible to get emergency vehicles to those who needed help. Not only did numerous people get injured, but 25 people were hospitalized, and the death count has now risen. 9-year-old Ezra Blount was put on life support but passed earlier today making the total death count 10. Those who died ranged from ages 9 to 27. Multiple people attending the concert tried to help and get the show to stop so that people could receive medical attention, but the staff did nothing about it.
Due to the event turning fatal, multiple lawsuits are being filed against Travis Scott and there is an ongoing investigation on the situation. Travis Scott has been arrested and charged for creating rioting at his concerts in the past, and will more than likely run into more legal issues due to this event. When news of the event was brought to social media platforms, it quickly became a trending topic and was the new thing that everyone was talking about. Scott responded on social media telling fans that he will keep everyone updated on the situation. There is a lot of controversy over the event about who is to blame. Is Travis Scott responsible for the unfortunate events of the concert? Was he in the wrong for not stopping the concert? No matter who is “at fault” for the outcome of the concert, it was still a tragedy and bad experience for most.
