As of today, January 25th, 2019, Trump has agreed to reopen the government for 3 weeks to ensure that federal workers get paid. This is the longest shutdown that America has seen; 35 days and counting (after February 15th). Trump told reporters that there’s a good chance his wall will be funded by the Democrats after he compromises to reopen for a while. “I am very proud to announce today that we have reached a deal to end the shutdown and reopen the federal government,” he said. The legislation will only fund the government if negotiations about the wall and the border patrol continue after the shutdown. Trump’s shutdown has caused air travel delays, two missed pay periods for federal workers, and delayed services in huge agencies. “The walls we are building are not medieval walls. They are smart walls designed to meet the needs of front-line border agents and are operationally effective,” said Trump about his wall.
