Imagine walking into the library and not seeing Mrs. Krieg’s lovely, welcoming face, or taking a step into the wonderful world of books and not hearing, “Hi! How’s your day?” from a voice who you know cares. This could become a reality for the students of Sahuaro High School – and soon.
A policy in our district – District Initiated Transfer (DIT) – says that if a TUSD staff member with seniority gets cut, they can choose a new school to work at (simplified explanation). Since Mrs. Krieg is retired, she essentially has less seniority with the district, and a fellow librarian who got DITed is choosing to take her position.
After hearing this, students and staff are reasonably outraged. Mrs. Good, an English teacher here, created a petition for students and staff to sign in an attempt to help Mrs. Krieg keep her much-deserved position. Our librarian does so much for the Sahuaro community. As Mrs. Good wrote on the website, “Mrs. Krieg is not only the best librarian we have ever had, she is also the Sponsor of Book Club, which would disappear without her. Mrs. Krieg does fundraising, makes shirts for staff, and does so much more to make our campus special within TUSD. The books she had ordered have increased student interest in reading, which has supported a voluntary increase in literacy on campus. The time, care, and attention Mrs. Krieg has put into making the library an amazing space to be cannot be overstated. She installed an interactive Lego wall where students express themselves, ordered sewing and cricut machines for students and clubs to use, hosts bi-weekly tutoring afterschool for staff and students, and SO MUCH MORE.”
Without Mrs. Krieg, the campus wouldn’t feel right. We sincerely hope our collective voice will be heard, and we get to keep this vital member of our Cougar family! Sign the petition using the link below to do your part:

Mrs. Krieg loves working at Sahuaro and is always looking at ways to improve the library and encourage students when they attend. It would be a travesty to remove her. It would be Sahuaro’s loss.
