After a couple of days of tryouts, teams were finally made. The girls’ basketball season is officially starting, and everyone’s feeling excited. The sound of sneakers squeaking on the gym floor and basketballs hitting the rim is back, and the team is ready to make this season their best one yet.
There’s a mix of returning players and new faces this year, which makes things exciting. The older players are stepping up as leaders, helping the younger ones adjust to the pace and pressure of high school basketball.
As the season begins, the team is focused on improvement and teamwork above all else. They know that effort and attitude matter just as much as the scoreboard. With every practice and every game, they’re building something bigger than basketball: trust, confidence, and school pride.
The Varsity Girls team showcased their prowess in a scrimmage on November 13, 2025, securing victories against both Mountain View and Amphi. Although it was a scrimmage, the team’s performance was clear proof of their readiness for the season, marked by strategic ball movement, aggressive steals, and solid defense.
The team’s ability to move the ball around the court kept their opponents on their toes, creating numerous scoring opportunities. Their teamwork and coordination were noticeable as players seamlessly passed and positioned themselves for optimal shots.
Defensively, the team was a force to be reckoned with, racking up a high number of steals and preventing the opposing teams from gaining momentum. Their strong defense shut down key players and disrupted the flow of the game, solidifying their dominance on the court.
The victories against Mountain View and Amphi underscored the team’s potential and highlighted areas of strength that they will undoubtedly leverage throughout the season. The coaching staff was pleased with the overall performance, noting the team’s ability to adapt to different playing styles and maintain their composure under pressure.
Looking ahead, the Varsity Girls team is focused on sharpening their skills and refining their strategies in preparation for the official start of the season. With their combination of offensive firepower and defensive tenacity, they are poised to make a significant impact and compete for top honors.
Two players who stuck out at the scrimmage were Ylena Gross and Jordynn Chavis. Both Jordynn and Ylena showed out on the court at the scrimmage, each bringing their own strengths that helped elevate the team. Jordynn was all over the place on defense, getting steals and reading the passing lane like it was nothing. Ylena played with consistency and had confidence in every shot she took, knocking down shots. Together, they both make smart passes and put a lot of pressure on defense; their playmaking made a high impact on defense.
The girls are ready to compete, represent their school, and leave it all on the court. This season, it’s not just about winning, it’s about growth, heart, and having fun doing what they love. Come out and show some support for our girls’ basketball team at their first home game on December 2nd against Sahuarita High School.
