People magazine has done it again. Since 1985, People magazine has been choosing the Sexiest Man Alive, and 2025 is their 40th anniversary. The choice was revealed Monday night on The Tonight Show, and John Krasinski’s title as 2024’s Sexiest Man Alive was officially taken over by Jonathan Bailey, age 37.
Jonathan Bailey starred in Wicked as Prince Fiyero, and made his 2024 big-screen debut in the popular movie musical alongside costars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. The second half, Wicked: For Good, is scheduled for release on November 21, 2025. His charm was previously shared on the screen as Anthony Bridgerton in the Netflix original Bridgerton, for which he earned Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for both Wicked and Bridgerton. Most recently, Bailey starred in the new box-office hit Jurassic World Rebirth this July as Dr. Henry Loomis, a paleontologist, which earned over $800 million worldwide.
“It’s the honor of a lifetime,” Bailey stated. He also shared he only told his dog, Benson, and jokingly said “How do you spell . . . NDA? ” referring to not having told anyone before the release.
With LGBTQ representation being more profound in Hollywood as the years go on, Jonathan Bailey is the first openly gay man to win this award. He shared, “In 2025, I’m sort of thrilled that People magazine has invited someone in to bestow this honor on someone who can really cherish the value of a sexy man.”
As he finishes off premieres for Wicked: For Good, Bailey intends to slow down and take a step away from acting to focus on Shameless Fund, an organization that focuses on raising funds for LGBTQ representation.
