For most of our freshmen class here at Sahuaro High School who have P.E, their teacher for that class is Ms. Ebert. Every three weeks, students learn a new sport and participate in games to earn their grade and stay physically active weekly. This week, they will be learning to play pickleball. Every Wednesday, the freshmen have two laps on the track, and they have a certain amount of time to finish those two laps to pass.
Ms. Ebert has been teaching P.E. classes for eight years, but this year marks her first year at Sahuaro, where she aims to help young people get the exercise they need to flourish as they grow older. The more exercise you do, the better your health will be in the long run. She plans to spend ten years at Sahuaro before she finally stops teaching P.E. and moves on to do other things she enjoys. She may teach higher grade levels for P.E if she is asked to, but for now, she is the freshman P.E. teacher.
She teaches freshmen how to play different sports without getting injured. She teaches how to be the best when exercising and just doing daily activities like a light jog or a long run. They can learn how to get better at something through the practice we go through because of her great teaching to help us along the way. The more freshman students know how to carefully do movement activities, the more they will know how to be safe before, during, and after those activities. It also teaches them how not to lose their breath after each longer exercise and how they can prepare for the future when it is best to keep up with activities that keep young kids healthy. Thanks to her, freshman students can learn how to be the best form of athletes they can be.
Ms. Ebert chose to be a P.E. teacher for freshmen because she wants to see them thrive in sports and other active things, so they don’t have a harder time in later life. Her goal to help them out is “to teach you guys how to be responsible, to teach you guys to be more active when playing sports, and to be more careful when exercising. I also want to teach you guys how to remain active in the future, in and out of high school.”
Once she retires from teaching, she says, “I plan to spend my time with my grandchildren when I retire.” Her plan, once she stops teaching for good, is one that she hopes will be fulfilled so she can see her grandchildren more and get to know them better as she grows older.
