The trial of Ryan Routh, the man accused of attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump, came to a dramatic end as federal prosecutors rested their case on the 19th of September, presenting 38 witnesses who detailed what they say was Routh’s planned attack against the president as he golfed at his West Palm Beach club on September 15, 2024. Ryan Routh represented his own case, arguing he did not fire the gun, which concluded on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
After the guilty verdict, Ryan tried to stab himself in the neck with a pen and tried to flee. The Florida jury found him guilty of attempted assassination. “Dad, don’t hurt yourself!” Ryan’s daughter, Sara, screamed as the bailiffs struggled to control Routh and rushed him out of the courtroom. After a short time, he returned to the courtroom wearing handcuffs; no blood was on his white shirt. His suicidal attempt failed. The jury also took over 2 and 1/2 hours to deliberate and found Ryan guilty of assaulting a Secret Service agent. On Wednesday, the 24th, Routh was being housed in a medical dorm at St. Lucie County jail under suicide observation. Trump called the verdict on Truth Social “A very big moment for Justice in America!”
Routh, 59, a former-Trump supporter, is a resident of Hawaii and originally from North Carolina. During the two-week trial, Routh served as his own attorney. And before the panel of seven women and five men reached its verdict, he delivered a brief and disjointed closing argument during which he tried to argue that there was no crime because he never fired a shot at Trump.
