Aubrianna Stewart is not only a cheerleader here at Sahuaro, but one of our head captains. She’s been cheering for 12 years, starting her journey in Palo Verde Park with Tucson Scorpions Football and Cheer. From rookie to captain, Aubrianna shines every Friday night!
Aubrianna says, “When I was a little girl, I started young and I found a love for the sport I couldn’t find anywhere else. Cheer has always brought me true happiness and something I have always been consistent in.” Aubrianna has dedicated herself to her goal of becoming a captain. “It’s everything I’ve wanted since my freshman year in high school. Like I knew since day one that I was going to end up being a captain. I kind of just took things into my own hands.”

Managing the team with other captains is no easy feat; it’s everyone’s first time, and everyone has different ideas. Aubri shares, “Being a cheer captain isn’t as easy as it may seem. Working with the other captains to make our team look as best as possible and communicating is the most important.” While leading the team, Aubri’s plans to “…leave it better than I found it. Create new relationships and build better bonds, not just me but the team as a whole.”

Aubri’s favorite part about cheer is, “…just like everything. Everything about cheer just makes me really happy.” She’s very excited for Senior Night and competition season, but basketball season can be quite time-consuming and stressful (though fun nevertheless!). As a main base, Aubri is the heart of her stunts. Her favorite stunts are her straight-up libs and baskets because she and her group have put the most amount of time and effort into those. (And they look really great!) The team got 2nd place at Arizona State Cheer last year, but this time they’re hoping for 1st.
Throughout her 4 years on the team, Aubri’s favorite memory has to be, “…when we were coming back from a game and me and Jazmin connected to the speaker and truly made our night amazing.” Aubri will miss putting on her uniform and getting ready with her girls on Friday nights, especially this season with how well our football team is doing.

After high school, she plans to go to community college to start her undergraduate degree in criminal justice, and eventually transfer to a university to finish the rest of her college career. Her cheering in college depends on whether or not she starts university straight out of high school.
On October 31st, Senior Night for cheer, football, band, and color guard will be held. Make sure to be there as the cheer seniors will be having a special Senior Night performance, showcasing the seniors’ jumps, dancing, and stunting skills!
