Homecoming at Sahuaro is the best time of year, but with it being a month earlier, our school is in a rush to finalize routines, posters, dates, decorations, and just about everything else you can think of. From student council, to cheer, to band, to choir, Sahuaro students overindulge in our school’s spirit to pump up the Cougar community. Whether it’s reading this article, cheering at the pep rally, or attending the football game, make sure to show your support for Sahuaro this week!

Ashlynn de Madeira, homecoming dance chair: “…to prepare us for homecoming, I got my committee together, and we all sat and discussed what color scheme we wanted to do, and we decided on gold and silver. I started to browse Amazon for decorations, and I found a lot of good ones. I found disco balls that we’re going to hang up, I found tablecloths, things to put on the table, and everything. And then we designed the tickets, and everybody was assigned to make posters to advertise homecoming. We did a lot of cheesy ones this year, which I loved, and yeah, I’m so excited for it.”
Sarah Bol, homecoming royalty chair: “…as the homecoming royalty chair, it’s just been a lot of like technicalities. Like, it’s ordering our crowns and our sashes, and then we have to do the voting and all that type of stuff. It was very long, but now that we have everybody’s winners for each grade, we can just kind of chill and wait until homecoming.”
Robert Romera-Luna, Student Body Vice President: “There’s been communication between teams about songs, the script is great, we’re starting to hang up decorations next Tuesday, and they gave us more time, so it’s gonna be pretty fun.”
Axel Garcia, homecoming spirit week chair: “We’re trying to up the school spirit. We got ideas from all of the grades on what they would like for the days, and you know, we’re ready. Go all out!”
Trevor Eagerton, varsity football player: “…you know we’re locked in at our practice every day, and our hatred just for Sabino drives us to just beat the crap out of them. We’re going to win easily, 49-0.”

Hailey Shryock, marching band drum major: “…we’ve been going over the music, memorizing it, memorizing the drill, and just compiling them both together. We have zero-hour, so we practice every single morning, and then on Tuesdays, we practice from 5 PM to 8 PM. And then for the pep assembly, we just figured out what song we’re going to play, so we’re going to start working on those today during concert band.”
Alayah Briscoe, choir member: “We are currently working on going over the Star Spangled Banner because we are doing a three-part harmony as just girls, so we’re just like working on that and getting it down.”
Madi Jordan, Color Guard captain: “…lots and lots of practice. We recently got two new members, so it’s just teaching them the fight song, a bunch of new tunes, and marching basics.”

Mrs. Good, yearbook advisor: “… there’s going to be four pages for hoco, two for the pep rally, and the two other ones featuring mostly cheer, marching band, and the halftime show.”
Bailey Rivera, dance club member: “…we’re doing four dances, there will be an afrobeat dance and a couple of other surprise songs.”
The seniors in cheer chose and created the homecoming pep rally and halftime routine, so most are busy teaching the team the dance and stunts in time for this Friday.
If you haven’t realized, planning homecoming isn’t easy work; it actually might be the hardest part of the year. But it’s always worth it. For these assiduous students, seeing their classmates’ glee on homecoming day is worth all the hours, days, weeks, and months put in. If you’re a freshman experiencing your first homecoming, or a senior celebrating their last, we hope you have the best time, but most importantly, make the most Cougariffic memories!
