On September 14th, 2025, the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony was held in Los Angeles, California. Around 7.4 million people watched the ceremony, which was a lot more than last year- making it the most viewed Emmy broadcast in four years.
The big series prizes were awarded to fresh TV shows, with “The Pitt” taking home best drama award and “The Studio” winning best comedy. “Adolescence” was the frontrunner in the limited series category. The majority of acting awards were given to first-time prizewinners, featuring Hollywood veterans such as Seth Rogen and Noah Wyle, along with 15-year-old Owen Cooper, who made history as the youngest male Emmy winner ever. “I was nothing about three years ago,” Owen said.
“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” was another remarkable first-time winner, and it received the award for best talk show only months after CBS announced the show’s cancellation.
Standup comedian Nate Bargatze kicked off the evening with a trick to keep winners’ acceptance speeches on time. Nate promised $100,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, but he added that every time someone exceeded the time limit, funds would be deducted. It was a funny joke at the start, but after three hours, it became less funny and started to wear off.
Jennifer Coolidge appeared on stage this year to present the award for best actress in comedy. In a chaotic speech, she diverted to “The Pitt” and a colonoscopy before concluding that victory isn’t everything it’s made out to be. She said that winning the Emmy was one of the worst things that had ever happened to her. After her speech, she gave the award to seven-time winner Jean Smart.

The night saw many historic moments. Tramell Tillman became the first black man to win Best Supporting Actor in a Drama for his role in Severance. “You remember what you want to remember. You make time for what you want to make time for. Do the work. Show up. And most importantly, don’t embarrass me in public. My first acting coach was tough, y’all. But all great mothers are,” he said.
Kathy Bates made headlines as oldest nominee ever for Lead Actress in a Drama. In many ways, this year’s Emmy Awards made history.
