Dungeons and Dragons, more popularly known as D&D, is a fun way to pass the time with your friends. You can make up your own characters and use them to explore the custom-made world of medieval times and mystical creatures or people. There are many races to pick from for your own special character; the most popular are dragon-borns, elves, humans, or goblins. There are also various classes, or your character’s category for chosen weapon(s), including magic; you can make your character use a bow or a giant greatsword if you so wish. Each character that a player creates can be unique to them or something they enjoy doing in their own personal lives.
The worlds of D&D are also unique; each world or location is custom-made to the Dungeon Master’s personal preferences for their players to explore and enjoy. Lots of these worlds have many mysteries to uncover and various treasures to be collected by the players throughout their sessions or playing times. Many dungeon masters use different things to make a map; some may use things to toss onto a piece of paper and outline to make their world’s shape. Some dungeon masters think heavily about what they wish the world to look like and what to call it.
In many D&D games, the party starts in a town to find everything they need for their game. Many towns come with the typical food and weapons for the party to start with in their early game, to make it easier to explore the world. Some starting towns also don’t show up til later and become an early game town. These towns are where most parties will spend their time to find everything they need before continuing in their game.
Some parties will start in a forest rather than a town to make it more intense for experienced players. More experienced players find it to be more enjoyable, with a challenging start that becomes increasingly difficult as they progress. Less experienced players, beginners, or casual players prefer a more pleasant start to their game, making it easier for them to enjoy it more. If a party has either one or both kinds of players, some will start in other places than one another and meet up again later on, so they each get what they prefer in a game of D&D.
Dice are a very important part of D&D; they are used to perform actions and do damage to monsters or enemies. Most dice have a different role than one another; the D20s are used for most actions and are the die used the most in a game of D&D. D4s, D6s, D8s, and D10s are most used to do damage to an enemy or to show how much damage was taken from a hit of an enemy. The D00s are used as percentile dice, and when paired with a D10, it turns it into a percentage roll from 1 to 100.
