On Thursday, September 4th, the Indiana Fever announced that starting point guard and star player Caitlin Clark would be out for the remainder of the WNBA season due to a right groin injury. Clark, who hasn’t missed a game in the past 5 years, had to miss the last 3 regular-season games for the Fever and the playoffs. This news is incredibly frustrating for the Fever organization, as Caitlin is responsible for approximately 40-45% of the Fever’s scoring.
On September 5th, The Fever’s head coach, Stephanie White, said, “We just weren’t able to get to where we thought we needed her to be able to participate at this level. Some of that’s physical,” and, “some of that is also endurance and being able to play at the level that it takes, build back that endurance enough to play, because all of these games right now are like playoff games. There’s a sense of urgency and a level to which they’re being played.”
Clark, who hasn’t played an active game since July 15th due to a right groin injury, has made her feelings about missing the season very obvious with an Instagram post captioned, “I miss this so bad.”
Along with Clark, the Fever have also lost guards Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson, Odyssey Sims, as well as Aerial Powers and Sophie Cunningham to injury. This significant loss of guard play will reveal who the Fever are without their guards and who is ready to step up to the challenge.
