On Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025, the Girls Volleyball played their first home game of the season against Poston Butte. The season officially started last Wednesday, away at Crismon, where all three levels, JVB, JVA, and Varsity, lost. With little time to prepare, having only one practive before two back-to-back home games, the volleyball team worked hard and went in strong. This Wednesday, the 3rd, Poston Butte traveled from Phoenix to Sahuaro High School.
Our JVB girls played at 4:00 pm, and while they put up a fight and had multiple crowd-awing rallies, Sahuaro lost the first two sets, sending Poston Butte home with the win. Despite the lost, Coach Nic hung his head high and encouraged his team to do the same, while sending off the other team with high fives and “good game”.
The JV girls played at 5:00 pm. With the Varisty girls on the sideline cheering them on, and the gym beginning to fill up, the JV went to only two sets, losing both, but putting up a fight. The girls, despite losing, were in high energy thanks to Coach Wharam, who was seen on the sidelines looking quite energetic, rooting the girls on to do their best.
With mixed energy in the air, the Varisty girls went into warm ups with positive vibes, while not only working hard with the little time they had before the game, but also remembering to have fun as a team.
The JVb, and JV girls stood on the sidelines, cheering on their teammates, with chants, encouraging words, and loud cheers, putting the Varsity in high spirits.

Even though the team put in all their energy, Poston Butte came in and took the win from Sahuaro, winning all 3 sets, and going home early. Our girls showed great sportsmanship, remembering to cheer on the other school, and picking up their fellow teammates.
All three coaches were proud of their teams despite the losses all around. The girls’ volleyball team, didn’t stay low for long and got back the next day, Thursday, the 4th, at 4, 5, and 6:00pm, Sahuaro went against Pueblo in another home game. JVB lost, but showed improvement from the night before. While the JVand Varsity teams channeled their energy from the other night, and JV beat Pueblo in three sets, passing on the energy to Varsity, who also won in three sets, proving that an L can easily turn into a W.
Make sure you come support your Sahuaro Girls Volleyball team at home, September 8th, at 4, 5, and 6:00pm. Go Cougars! We love seeing effort and great sportsmanship from all three levels, representing our school!
And thank you, Poston Butte, for being great guests and having great energy, putting up a good game with us!
