On Friday, August 29th, our school held its annual Club Fair. The event gave students the opportunity to walk around and explore different clubs, finding a place where they might belong. From fun, creative outlets to clubs that address and take care of serious community issues, there was something for everyone.
One of the newest clubs this year is the Humanity United Club. This group meets every other Tuesday during lunch in the library and is dedicated to fundraising for the homeless. “It’s an opportunity to give back to your community. It’s also a place where you can fill your requirements for volunteer hours for other sports and clubs,” Mr. Alan, the club’s sponsor, said. Even though they just started, they already have big goals for helping people in need. It’s a great choice for students who want to make a difference and give back to the community.

The Cosplay Club also made an appearance. Sponsored by Mr. R. Smith and Mr. Rios, this club is all about dressing up as your favorite characters and celebrating creativity. They meet every Thursday from 3:15-4:00 after school in room 206 and focus on having fun while sharing their love for cosplay. Students don’t need experience, just an interest in costumes and expressing themselves.

For music lovers, the Orchestra Club has been around for a while and continues to bring students together through music. Sponsored by Juan Guzman, the club teaches students how to play orchestral music and offers a space for practicing and performing. The club meets whenever needed, and it’s perfect for anyone who wants to learn or improve their musical skills.

The Robotics Club stood out as one of the most inspiring groups. Started in 2017 and sponsored by Mr. Davis and Mr. Christian, this club gives students the chance to build robots and compete against other schools. Members learn teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership while working on projects after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15 to 5:00 p.m. It’s clear that they’re looking to encourage students to challenge themselves and think in new ways.

Another awesome choice is the Book Club, which has been around for four years. Sponsored by Mrs. Krieg, this club is all about relaxing, reading, and discussing books. “We have such a wide range of people and different types of books that we read, so everyone feels included.” Sarah Bol shared. It’s a welcoming space for students who want to share their favorite stories or discover new ones. They meet every Monday during lunch in the library, making it an easy way to start the week with good conversation.

The CTE Pharmacy Club is another unique and hands-on group. Started in 2023 and sponsored by Ms. Kyle, this club creates items like body scrubs, lip balms, bath bombs, and gift bundles. Students can be creative while also learning practical skills. The club meets once a month on Thursdays during lunch, with their first meeting this year happening on September 4th.

The Cougar Link Crew is a club where upperclassmen can serve as a positive influence for younger students and help guide them through the start of high school. Link leaders will run freshman orientation and meet biweekly to check in on progress with their freshmen.

The Latinos Unidos Club is a great way to celebrate your culture through words and food (snack sales). This club is sponsored by Ms. Evie, who is passionate about promoting cultural awareness and community engagement.
These are just a few of the clubs available at Sahuaro High School. I strongly encourage everyone to join a club, as it’s a fantastic way to connect with others and express yourself. I think it’s great to have people around who share your interests, especially during times when judgment can be overwhelming. Express yourself.
