Mason King shared his experiences and some insights into his life including, his educational path, and his journey of personal growth throughout high school. Despite being a native of Tucson, Mason plans to venture out and attend Northern Arizona University, where he received a full-ride scholarship due to GPA, along with receiving the Dr. & Mrs. Mark R. Cavanaugh pre-med scholarship from the Cougar Foundation. He’s going to major in biomedical sciences next school year, aspiring to do something in the medical field because helping people is something that he is truly passionate about.

Along with medicine, Mason is also deeply passionate about reading and writing, which is primarily a factor in why he was interested in the school newspaper and the book club at Sahuaro. Throughout his three years as a member of the Sahuaro Book Club, Mason possessed the titles of Treasurer and Vice President, the club becoming a big part of Mason’s life. In his free time, Mason loves to read, his favorite genre being literary fiction, and write his own work from poetry to free-writing.
Mason spoke fondly of his family and says he loves spending time with them, as well as his friends, all of which he says have shaped him “into the person he is today.” “I’m forever grateful for my family and wouldn’t trade them for the world, my sister is like my built-in best friend.”
In addition to his list of hobbies and the people in his life that he loves to spend time with, Mason has a true passion for music. He is an avid collector of vinyl records and other physical musical media, “I just love the feeling of something I care about so deeply being tangible and in my hands.”
Mason grew up surrounded by music, with both his parents feeling the same way – his dad playing multiple instruments and his mom constantly introducing him to new music. He described music as “a constant source of inspiration and relaxation in his life.” He notes that he listens to a variety of artists, including genres that span from rock, pop, and musical theater to indie and jazz, highlighting the diversity of his musical taste. “I love discovering new music and listening to something new, there’s so much good music left out there to listen to.”
Mason reflected back on his years at Sahuaro and said what he liked most about Sahuaro: “It’s somewhere comforting.” He says that he’s “been here so long that it feels familiar for me.” This familiarity, from his school, family, and friends, to Tucson, is something he will genuinely miss as he prepares to graduate and embark on new adventures at university. He reflected on how his experiences over the past four years have shaped him into the person he is today. He believes he has grown significantly from the experiences and challenges he has faced.
