For senior superlative winner of Best Ride, Isabelle Osorio, working on cars has become second nature. She has been involved in the automotive world since before she could even reach the pedals. “I’ve been working on cars since I was about three,” she shared. Growing up in a family that was “really into cars,” Isabelle developed a natural love for everything automotive related.
As a senior about to graduate, Isabelle dedicates much of her free time to working on her trucks, especially her beloved 1985 Chevrolet C10. She bought the truck in Yuma in 2022 and has been working with her dad to rebuild it ever since. “I try to work on my truck every weekend,” she explained. “Lately, it’s been challenging because my senior year is very eventful, so I haven’t been able to work on it as much as I’d like.”
She chose her vehicles because she wanted practicality and personalization. Her daily truck is a 2007 GMC Canyon she picked up in October of 2023. However, her project truck is the one that has a special place in her heart. “I wanted it to be personalized to me,” she shared. Isabelle wanted something that reflects her individuality. By purchasing a truck that requires significant repairs, she has the opportunity to personalize it in whatever way she sees fit. Once she completes the project, her ’85 C10 will be unique to her, unlike the countless other old C10s on the road.

Along with the mechanical skills working on trucks has brought her, it has also served as a way to bond with her dad. The two of them have their own older trucks, and they work together to fix them. “There’s a lot of late nights just us in the garage,” she shared. The long days and nights of working, solving problem after problem, have left Isabelle with memories of her dad that will last a lifetime.
Car meets have played a significant role in fueling Isabelle’s passion for vehicles, allowing her to connect with others who share the same interest. Until March, she attended one nearly every weekend. Isabelle says, “I love seeing the time and effort that other people put into their cars; the car community is always wonderful to be around.” The sense of community, along with the creativity and dedication seen at these meets inspires her as she continues to build her dream ride.
