For Spanish teacher Señor Lane , teaching isn’t just a job – it’s a calling. As a Sahuaro graduate himself, he felt drawn back to the school that played such a significant role in his life. Now, he dedicates his days to teaching Spanish, sharing his passion for the language with students and the community.
His educational journey was inspired by his high school Spanish teacher, Señor Lopez. “He inspired me to learn and then teach Spanish,” Señor Lane shared. While no one specifically encouraged him to go into teaching, mainly due to concerns about income, he strongly believes that he is taking the path meant for him. “I feel I am doing what God wants me to do.”
For Señor Lane, teaching Spanish is more than just a subject. “I know if my students learn Spanish, it will enrich their lives in so many ways,” he said. Seeing students who are genuinely eager to learn makes the job most rewarding.
His greatest success stories come from watching his former students grow into proficient Spanish speakers as adults. More than just the language, he hopes his students leave his classroom with a lifelong love for learning and the knowledge that he “…cares about them and wants the best for them,” said Señor Lane.
Unlike many teachers who transition from other careers, Señor Lane has been dedicated to education since the start. He began teaching at Tucson Unified School District in 1987 and became part of Sahuaro in 1999. Over the years, he has been more than just a teacher; he has served as an assistant track coach, sponsored Bible clubs, and worked at sporting events.
Through decades of teaching, Señor Lane has worked alongside countless dedicated educators and has taught generations of students. His lifelong commitment to Sahuaro is a testament to his love and passion for the Spanish language. His impact goes beyond the classroom and shapes the lives of students who carry his lessons long after they graduate and for the rest of their lives.
His commitment to fostering relationships extends beyond the classroom, as he often makes time to connect with students one-on-one, offering guidance and support. Through decades of teaching and hard work, Señor Lane has worked alongside countless dedicated teachers and has taught generations of students. His lifelong commitment to Sahuaro is a testament to his love and passion for the Spanish language. His impact goes beyond the classroom and shapes the lives of students who carry his lessons long after they graduate and for the rest of their lives, instilling in them a sense of cultural appreciation and confidence in their abilities.
