Winning back-to-back championships with my soccer team.

Who do you get your eyes from?

Both of my parents have blue eyes, but my eyes are more similar to my dad’s.

I don’t think anyone has ever told me they were jealous.

How would you describe your eyes?

Blue and big. I’ve been told they change color in the sunlight to a greenish-blue or a lighter blue.

Yes. I would try to help them out. I would practice their presentation with them.

I would help them feel better and tell them to be themselves.

What do people not know about you?

I like P.E. and I do it every day because I need to be strong. I like to go out and do bowling. It’s so fun.

Tell us the funniest thing that has ever happened to you.

I tripped trying to get into a friend’s car, and I got stuck upside down for like five minutes because everyone was too busy laughing to help.

What is the funniest joke you have ever told?

Why was six afraid of seven? Because seven “ate” nine. (That’s how I got a girlfriend.)

What is the best prank you have pulled on a person or a person has pulled on you?

This wasn’t funny when it happened, but my girlfriend convinced me that my friend almost died because his throat closed up on him. It was very believable, so I’ll give them props for that.

Who is your favorite comedian and why?

I’d say either Fluffy or Robin Williams. They’re both comedians I grew up with, and they just have this very captivating charm. Alongside being funny, they are also kind people, and I’ve always wanted to be like them.

If you had to teach one subject, which one would it be and why?

Sports medicine. I think it is a very important class to have at a high school, and I was disappointed that I couldn’t take it this year.

Which subject is your least favorite and why?

English. There are too many words to memorize. I’m not great at timed writes. Too many different types of language. I’m not good at interpreting meanings in poems.

Which Sahuaro teacher has inspired you the most? Does it make you want to become a teacher?

Ms. Barnes has influenced me the most. She would be the type of teacher I want to be. Along with Mr. Smith. They are both fun, easy, and I can always have a good time with them. I want my students to make fun of me in a good way and vice versa.

What is one creative lesson you would teach?

I would teach the effect singing has on the body. It actually has healing factors, along with beneficial hormones that get released into your body. I would teach all the benefits of singing and encourage everyone to join choir.

Who/what inspires you the most?

I get inspired by scenery.

What is your favorite popular piece of art?

Gustave Doré. His pieces are hauntingly beautiful. 

What original piece are you most proud of and why? 

This drawing of a doll I made. It was the most detailed and well-shaded piece of art I’ve ever made.

If you were commissioned to create a great piece of art, what would you make? What medium would you use? And where would it be displayed?

I would paint a statue and make it look scary. It would go in a museum.

What instruments do you play?

I mainly play the electric guitar and classical guitar.

Who gave you your first instrument, and what was it?

My dad gave me my first guitar. It was a used Geo Ibanez guitar.

How often do you practice?

I practice anywhere from one to three hours per day.

What is the worst part of playing it?

At the beginning, finger calluses were the worst. After four years, though, the worst part now is beginning to learn how to play a new piece or song.

If you could collaborate with a musician from any era, who would it be and why?

I would collaborate with the 90s melodic death metal band guitarist, Alexi Laiho. He has unbelievable songwriting skills, and I would love to learn how to replicate his sound.

What is your favorite movie or play? Why?

My favorite movie is “Interstellar”. It is my favorite for a lot of reasons. The music, the story, the suspense, everything about it is perfect.

Do you ever get stage fright? If so, how do you cope with it?

Before the first showing of a play, I get a little nervous, but I wouldn’t call it stage fright; it’s more of, “I really hope no one forgets what they’re doing and they remember their lines” type of nervous. I cope with my nerves by making sure I know what I’m doing. 

What has been your favorite role that you’ve played? Why?

My favorite role that I’ve played has been John Proctor for “The Crucible.” It’s a character with many layers and has a wide arrangement of emotions that are presented on stage. He also has some very memorable lines and scenes.

Who is your favorite actor/actress? Why?

James Earl Jones is my personal favorite actor. He voiced Darth Vader and Mufasa in The Lion King. He had an amazing voice and was an amazing actor for the roles he did. RIP, my GOAT.

What celebrity scandal would you most likely be involved in later in life?

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard 2.0.

Kaitlyn Nguyen, because she won POTUS for girls. 🙂 She is also a very kind and amazing person.

I would freeze up and overthink; I would fail to act on instinct and impulse.

America is the land of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Best Best-Friend Duo: Jacob Lopez and Cyprian Thomas Way

When and how did you meet?

Jacob Lopez: In sixth grade, we met in Mrs. Faulkner’s math class, but we didn’t get close until we joined Student Council. It’s one of those friendships that you can’t remember the specifics, we just were friends.

Cyprian Way: Jake and I met in sixth grade in Mrs. Faulkner’s math class.

What is your favorite thing about your bestie? Least favorite?

Jacob Lopez: My favorite thing about Cyprian is his honesty. He’s going to tell me the truth without mincing words, and that is something I value. My least favorite is his hair… I’m jealous of the wave and the thickness he’s got. Could’ve had the craziest flow, but I got super straight hair.

Cyprian Way: Jake has always been there for me. Sometimes, he yaps about random things.

What do you think your life would be like if you hadn’t met your BFF?

Jacob Lopez: Cyprian has been in my life for seven years now. I could only say I would be worse off because I can’t fathom where I’d be if I never met him seven years ago.

Cyprian Way: He has been such an amazing friend. I have no idea where I would be without him.

What is your skincare routine?

I use a double exfoliation kit now.

In what ways have you changed in terms of looks?

Went from 150 to 130 and changed my hair.

What is your morning routine to get ready for school?

I wake up at 6:00 am, get in the shower, and use the bathroom to get ready till 7:00 am. Then I start preparing for school and my day to leave the house by 8:10 am.

What advice would you give to younger you?

Just be patient; the things you want will eventually come.

What makes you laugh?

Nothing makes me laugh more than when I’m with my friends or family and we’re making fun of each other. Could do it for hours.

What is the funniest joke you know?

In the moment, the jokes make themselves. It’s funnier to come up with something in the moment than to have a joke ready.

How would you describe your laugh?

It depends on how hard I laugh, but when I am absolutely dying about something, my laugh switches from a silent wheeze to a loud chuckle. I’ve been told that my shoulders go up and down when I laugh, but I’ve never noticed.

Whose laugh makes you laugh?

Easily Jill’s laugh, I think the snort and the wheeze is what does it for me.

What is the kindest thing you have done for someone?

That’s a really good question that I’ve never really thought about, maybe being there for a friend, cheering someone up, or giving something up.

What are daily acts of kindness you do?

I always try and be nice to everyone, and I think that sticks with people the most! Holding a door, small talk with classmates, complimenting, and being an overall respectful person every day (or at least I try!)

What is the meanest thing you have ever done to someone?

Hmmm, I’m sure I have done many things that I regret doing/saying, but I take those and try and learn from them for next time! It’s best to look at those regrets as opportunities to grow.

Other than you, who do you think has the biggest heart?

I do believe, of course, Mia Payette has the biggest heart (she won too lol.) She is so kind to everyone and is such a great friend who will tell you like it is in a nice way. I like to think that my friends, family, and just the people I know in general all have big hearts in some sort of way.

How many classes have you missed/been late to because of your senioritis?

I think 50+, not sure the exact number. 

Which subject has taken the hardest hit and why?

Badminton, because you have to do all the work in person.

When you skip school, how do you spend your time?

I usually don’t decide to miss school; I just end up waking up really late, so I would basically spend the day asleep.

Do you think high school will be the “best years of your life”? Why or why not?

No, I think high school is just a small stepping stone to finding out who you are and how you can make a happy life for yourself.
