This season is a time for giving, and this year, our school is proud to participate in the Angel Tree program—a heartfelt effort aimed at bringing joy to children in need. This initiative ensures that children who might otherwise go without gifts during the holidays feel the magic of the season. “We always do a project during the holiday season that focuses on giving back to the community. The chair of this committee, Jazzmin Arauz, really wanted this project to be Angel Tree this year so we went with it,” Mrs. Trujillo, our Student Council sponsor, explained.
Organized by the Salvation Army, the Angel Tree program helps make children’s Christmas wishes come true. Mrs. Trujillo describes the program as, “A way to help out children in need during the holiday season. These are typically homeless children or children who have lost their parents and are not likely to get any Christmas presents. These children pick one gift they really want this holiday season and the Salvation Army creates tags that are distributed to places like schools, churches, and businesses that want to help find people to donate these gifts.”
Getting involved is simple: tags are available in Mrs. Trujillo’s room, room 101. Each tag contains the details of a child’s gift request. After selecting a tag, donors purchase the gift, attach the tag, and return it to room 101. If you’re unable to purchase a gift yourself, spreading the word about this project to friends or family is another great way to help.
To ensure the gifts reach their recipients in time for the holidays, donations must be turned in by December 12th. The Salvation Army will pick up the gifts on December 13th for distribution to the children.
Participating in the Angel Tree program is more than just a kind gesture—it’s a way to remind children they are cared for. This also aligns with our school’s commitment to promoting kindness and community engagement among students, fostering a spirit of empathy and generosity that lasts far beyond the holiday season.
The Angel Tree program allows us to come together as a school and make the holidays brighter for children who need it most. Whether you’re a student, staff member, or part of a student’s family, your contribution can have a lasting impact.
So, stop by room 101, pick up a tag, and help us make this season one of giving and gratitude. Let’s show the true spirit of the holidays by coming together to support those in need. And, as a bonus, if you bring in a gift, you get to go to a pizza party.
Remember: Donations are due December 12th. Together, we can make a difference!
