The Cougar Care Shop is a new store opening at Sahuaro. At lunch on Wednesdays (subject to change) advanced pharmacy tech students will set up a table in front of the auditorium, selling products such as lotion bars, menthol body rubs, lip scrubs, and bath bombs.
Pharmacy teacher Ms. Kyles said, “…we decided to start the shop because it’s a part of compounding, which is a big part of pharmacy. And then we also wanted to do something different and bring something new to the school that people maybe haven’t seen before. Also, get people interested in pharmacy.” Compounding is a common practice in pharmacies to make medications specifically tailored to the patient’s needs.
The products come in different scents, such as lavender, orange, pineapple, coconut, watermelon, mango, strawberry, and peppermint. Students have labeled and packaged all their inventory for sale. Prices (subject to change) are as pictured to the right.
Pharmacy student Juliana Lukanuski shared, “I prepared for the pharmacy shop by collectively as a class making posters to hang up around the school, and then we also went to Amazon, bought supplies for everything, and then from there – the advanced pharmacy class – we all worked together to make sugar scrubs, lip scrubs, chapstick, menthol rubs, bath bombs, and lotion bars.” Once everything was ready, they just had to spread the word, which they did by, “…hanging up posters, putting it in the announcements, and The Paper Cut offered to make an article so that was great too,” Juliana commented.
“My favorite scent is the lemongrass. It smells very clean. We tested out the hand scrubs and all of us agreed that our hands felt so much softer. The scent lasted all morning,” Ms. Lange said after testing several products.
“The students work very hard to make these products for them. They do a very good job with compounding. Everything is made with a lot of care and a lot of enjoyment. They really enjoy the class. So come buy our products and also come sign up for the class!” Ms. Kyles exclaimed.
If you’ve got free time on Wednesdays, stop by the auditorium to support a local Sahuaro shop!
