Senior Kaylie Nguyen is striving to reach the top of her class. Currently ranked first among the scholars of the Class of 2025, she is striving to secure the rank as number one. “I’m trying for valedictorian,” she says. Kaylie explained that her drive comes from a desire to “make my parents proud” while fulfilling her “personal pride.”
Over the past four years, Kaylie has taken nine AP classes, including AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, AP Literature, AP Psychology, and AP Computer Science. Her dedication shows in her choice to tackle all of these advanced subjects.
Kaylie puts in the effort to balance her school and personal life, finding ways to succeed in both. In her free time, she loves reading and baking. Her approach to balance is simple: “I try to set time at school to focus on school work and get that done there, and then save time at home…for whatever else I want to do, like hobbies.” For students aiming for high achievement, she offers this advice: “Try to find that balance…focus on your work at school.”
Kaylie shares her senior year at Sahuaro with her younger sister, Kaitlyn, who, after skipping a grade, has joined her in the class of 2025. Having a sibling in the same class as her has, “…been really helpful…right now, we’re in the same grade and have a lot of the same classes. Then some days, if I’m sick, she’s also there to help me catch up. If I’m confused, she can help me, or if she’s confused, I can help her.” SHe considers it a perk that she “has someone there with me at all times.”
Kaylie’s future is bright as she is planning on attending either Arizona State University or the University of Arizona. Her long-term goal is to pursue a career in engineering, with aspirations to continue her studies even further. “I don’t know, I just want to go into the engineering field and then get my master’s when I’m done working…With all the AP classes, it’s a lot of workload I have to keep up with,” Kaylie shared. “However, high school has taught me a lot of time management for college.”
In closing, Kaylie Nguyen’s journey is an example of hard work and determination. As she balances her studies with her interests, she not only sets high standards for herself but also inspires those around her. With her sights set on a future in engineering and a strong sense of purpose, there’s no doubt that Kaylie will achieve great things in college and may even secure the title of Sahuaro’s valedictorian for the class of 2025.
