Sophomore Brylee Kennedy is often described as funny, outgoing, and very involved in her community. She doesn’t have as many school-related extracurricular activities besides her many honors classes, but her active participation in church and dance keeps her busy.
Brylee has been dancing for 14 years, after starting when she was two-years-old. Brylee began dancing with a combo class of ballet and tap; she would go from ballet to tap in her little leotards. Now, at fifteen, she does contemporary and pom line. In total, Brylee has done eight forms of dance, including tumbling. She previously did competitive dance but now she has pushed it into being a hobby because of her busy schedule. Although the company she dances for is competitive, (meaning they go to competitions) Brylee only practices with them and performs in non-comps and recitals.
Outside of dance, Brylee keeps herself active with her church. She has been a Christian her whole life and has a very strong relationship with God. Although Brylee leads a busy life, she makes time to attend church at least twice a week. “It’s always been a big part of my life and something I pride myself on is being connected to God. I do have a deep connection with him and I am very in touch with my relationship with him,” she shared. Brylee makes a point to incorporate God into her everyday life and she tries “…to show the love that he has given to me to others around me, making sure people feel seen, and for them to know that they are loved no matter what.” To maintain her bond with the Lord, Brylee studies her bible at least four times a week and listens to her worship music daily.
At fourteen, Brylee began working at Dairy Queen. Her family owns three locations including the one off of Sarnoff and Broadway where she works three days a week to get experience having a job and save for her future needs.
In the future, Brylee aspires to work in student ministry to help spread the gospel to younger generations. She can imagine herself helping a small church grow and flourish. Next year she plans to go to J-Ted to get her license for cosmetology, so she has a backup plan and many different skills under her belt.
Brylee is a bright girl and is very uplifting to be around. She always has some quippish response up her sleeve and can always bring a smile to someone’s face.
