With 6 years of experience as the Student Council Advisor, Mrs. Trujillo has become one of Sahuaro’s prized possessions through her hard work and commitment to making Sahuaro a better place.
Trujillo’s mother moved here from the Bay Area only a few years before she was born. She graduated from Canyon Del Oro High School and later attended the University of Arizona for her Bachelor’s in Science Education with an emphasis in biology. Still longing for more education, she went to Grand Canyon University for her Master’s in Biology.
Trujillo’s passion for teaching all started when she was a little girl, inspired by teachers bringing their own classrooms to life through decorations, lectures, and personality. “I remember just loving the idea of having my own classroom and designing assignments and decorating and organizing everything since I was really little.” Trujillo’s goal is to make a safe, happy, and impactful classroom for her students. Her passion for science specifically started when she was in high school when she realized that she loved life science and the Earth and she wanted to pursue it professionally.
Trujillo has grown quite an attachment to her Student Government class over the past 6 years. Although she plans to start a family soon and bequeath the adviser position to another lucky teacher, Trujillo cherishes the Student Council and all their memories together. In her years left as the StuCo teacher, her goal is, “…to make school more enjoyable for the whole student body…I think that it’s shown me that if kids have more fun at school then they will work harder and just be more engaged.”
Though Trujillo has had to persevere through many hardships since taking on the position, she has proven to everyone who steps onto this campus every day that this position was made for her. Trujillo has elevated student participation with extracurriculars by getting clubs up and running and working to build camaraderie among the student body. Putting on so many events each year with only a band of students to help is probably one of the hardest jobs out there. No other teacher at this school would be able to pull it off the way she does.
Trujillo’s favorite teaching memory was taking her Student Council class to Disneyland last year. She loved making more memories with the students and showing them that fundraising and saving up for this trip was worth all their hard work. Even though Disney has some of the longest lines, hanging out with all of her students made the time fly by. Though she sees these people every day in school, it’s nice to have time with each other outside of the classroom.
Overall, we know that this school most likely wouldn’t get by without Mrs. Trujillo. The student body deeply appreciates the work she puts in and is looking forward to a fun-filled year.
