Welcome, Mrs. Trevino, Sahuaro’s new assistant principal! From very first impressions, she thinks of Sahuaro as a very pleasant environment and was happily surprised at how welcoming the students and staff are. Mrs. Trevino has loved Sahuaro so far, saying, “I think the staff has been very welcoming, and the students are very polite.”
Mrs. Trevino grew up in the border town of Sonora, where she attended school in Douglas. She also went to night school in Mexico most of her life because her parents were adamant about her learning everything in Spanish as well as English.
Mrs. Trevino has educated herself across the state; she got her bachelor’s degree and bilingual endorsement from the University of Arizona, her master’s from Northern Arizona University, and a reading specialist endorsement from Arizona State University. She’s a triple threat – all three Arizona universities!
This is Mrs. Trevino’s third assistant principal position, and she was an elementary school principal for a while. She also worked as the director of recruitment and instruction of federal programs for two years. And while Mrs. Trevino has worked in administration for eight years, she also taught second graders for one semester. Our newest AP comes to Sahuaro without the intention of changing anything about our school, but intending to add to the support of the students and staff members and to build up the support system of the whole school. Long-term, Mrs. Trevino hopes to land the permanent position of assistant principal because currently, her position is interim, meaning her position is temporary since she was hired mid-year. One of Trevino’s short-term goals for Sahuaro is to learn everything she can this semester so things can flow better. She feels that there is still a lot for her to learn.
She loves traveling and every opportunity she has to travel she takes. She has been to many places, mainly in Western Europe. She has not yet been able to visit any parts of Asia, but it is definitely on her bucket list. Her favorite place she has visited is Turkey, and she hopes to go there again. Traveling has been a big part of her life and there is a great possibility for more traveling in the future. Though she has been to many places, she has surprisingly never acquired a least favorite, saying “I just enjoy everything. Everything new, I don’t care.”
We look forward to the more time we have with Mrs. Trevino and we hope she enjoys every minute. On behalf of The Paper Cut, we all welcome her to the Cougar family.
