The first thing that makes me happy is Betty Boop. Her design is one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen in my life and is incredibly recognizable. You can ask anyone about her and they would most likely be able to recognize her immediately. Betty Boop’s show (as odd of a show as it was) had so much personality and just a zany musical mess of fun and chaos, one of my favorite episodes being, “Betty Boop: Snow White”. Did I mention the music? The music is so amazing, almost all songs being composed by Cab Calloway, a famous old Harlem Renaissance singer back in the 1930s. The music is not for everyone since it is jazz, but I love it. Thus why Betty Boop is one of the things that make me happy.

The second thing that makes me happy is Horror films. Though this genre does have some problems with it, I still heavily enjoy it. Psychological horror, slasher horror, even just campy horror, I love it all. One of my favorite films is Killer Klowns From Outer Space. It is arguably one of the dumbest movies I’ve ever seen in the entire universe, but since it was so funny and self-aware, I can’t help but love it because of how much it makes me laugh. On the opposite spectrum, we have Midsommar, a gut-wrenching, horrifying movie that feels like someone keeps punching you in the gut repeatedly, and doesn’t stop until the movie finally ends. It is a dark film that is the complete and utter opposite of Killer Klowns, which is why I love it. I most likely love this genre because of the diversity. Now, I don’t love every horror movie, but that’s to be expected.

The third thing that makes me happy is animation. Just seeing animation as a medium and seeing all the ways to animate, how much time and effort is put into it, and seeing the creativity that transpires with this medium is simply just eye candy for me. I specifically love seeing how animation has changed over the years. For example, the animation style back in the 1920s is ten times different than now in the 2000s. It’s so interesting seeing some of the designs for some of the most iconic characters compared to now, like Micky Mouse. It’s all so interesting to me, which is why animation makes me happy.

The fourth thing that makes me happy is Bojack Horseman. The way the show portrays moments is truly one of the best things to ever happen. Unlike in many other shows, there is no such thing as a “good person” within this show, nor a “bad person”. In addition, we see the message, “You are the things that are wrong with you”, which means at the end of the day, your mental space is your responsibility. You are the one who is responsible for your actions, no matter what your past or setting is, it’s all you. Lastly, it’s just really stupidly funny. The comedy is very satirical, often making fun of real-life celebrities or just celebrity culture in general. It also makes fun of the media, like game shows or old nineties TV shows. Even though it’s, it manages to make me chuckle everytime I watch it. That is why Bojack Horseman makes me happy.
-
The fifth thing that makes me happy is Strawberry Shortcake, specifically the versions from the 1980’s. There’s something about the entire aesthetic of it all having this cozy and warm style. All the designs you see are these cottage core-themed dolls, with clear implications that are almost stuffed animal-like because of how soft the designs are compared to Barbie. It truly warms my heart looking at the characters and it often or not always brings a smile to my face when I do so. Thus why, Strawberry Shortcake makes me happy.
-
The sixth thing I love is Melanie Martinez’s album Cry Baby. Despite the cute theme of this album and how the titles of all the songs within it also look extremely cute and innocent, it is all honestly a completely different story. The songs tackle many dark subjects (similar to Bojack Horseman) but have a very childish theme to contrast with it (like Strawberry Shortcake). The music itself is very well done, even if I do not care for a song in the album, I would never say I hate it in any way. The music has a mixture of musical instruments and random noises that you would not expect to have in a song, which I think was very well done and different from others around the time. Therefore, Melanie Martinez’s album, Cry Baby, makes me happy.

The seventh thing that makes me happy is dangling earrings. The main reason I love these things is simply because of the creativity that goes into them. Like (given in the examples in the image) you can have many types of earrings with such personality. Tea sets, gummy bears, hearts of any kind, cards, mini eight balls, etcetera. There are so many options when it comes to these types of earrings. Also, just simply because… they are cute. Not that in-depth I know, but it is the truth. Ergo, that’s why dangling earrings make me happy.
-
The eighth thing that makes me happy is art. Any form of art, I do not care, I love it. I adore traditional art with paper and pens, I love painting with watercolor and acrylic, digital, I do not care I’m not picky when it comes to that sort of stuff. Like how I love dangling earrings, it is the creativity put into these that makes me happy. You can truly make anything out of art. Whatever is on your mind, you can make something out of that (most likely). Also, not to mention the talent I see people have when making art, because it takes a lot of work, so knowing someone takes so much time on a singular piece, is so impressive to me. Because of that, art makes me happy.
-
The ninth thing that makes me happy is dolls. Now, even though I am aware of the reputation dolls often get in media being creepy and weird, I do not believe any of that at all. There is something so nostalgic about dolls, something so warm and comforting, especially when it comes to stuffed dolls like Raggedy Anne. But another reason I love dolls so much is because of the fashion they all have. Doll brands such as Monster High, Bratz, Rainbow High, and LOL, all have very modern-day fashion with unique and creative twists. Now, I understand that dolls are not for everyone, especially porcelain ones since Hollywood likes to frame them as weird and evil, but dang it, they will never warp my perception of them, ever. Thus, why dolls make me happy.
-
The tenth thing I love is scented candles. Now keep in mind, I hate any form of bad smells, often using air fresher to help with that, but also occasionally using scented candles as well just so I will not waste so much money on freshers. Now even though I am deathly afraid of candles since I am scared that one day, I will just accidentally knock into one, and then my whole house will catch on fire, but they can be good substitutes at the end of the day. Also, some of the designs they have on them are nice and cool to look at so that’s a plus. Thus why, Candles make me happy.
