10. Five Nights at Freddy’s. After a nine year wait, fans of this beloved horror game franchise finally got the big screen adaptation they were promised, and it was great. The robots looked amazing. The eerie feel from the games was captured perfectly. The story is…alright. With the lore of the games being ever-changing, it would be a monumental task for anyone trying to create a perfect story and they did their best. What they did perfectly was give the fans what they wanted: a good movie surrounding their favorite haunted robot bear.

9. Elemental. The latest Pixar masterpiece, Elemental, is a stunningly animated and engaging film. It’s a deeply personal story about finding love where you never thought to look. Once again Pixar gives us a high-quality piece of art.

8. Scream VI. The scariest Ghostface has been since the first one. My new personal favorite in the series. Scream VI is another incredible installation in this legendary horror series. It follows the protagonists of the previous film as they try to uncover the identity of the latest pair of psychos donning the Ghostface mask.

7. TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR. This was the highest grossing performance film of all time, raking in $249.9 million worldwide. The film was purely a highlight reel of Taylor Swifts biggest tour to date, allowing her fans to relive the moments they saw in person or experience them in the next best way for those who failed to snipe any tickets.

6. Godzilla Minus One. After a few Godzilla movies where the titular Kaiju is used only as a plot device and the human drama is purely filler, Godzilla Minus One is a huge breath of fresh air. The human plot line is so deep that even if you removed Godzilla, you would still have an amazing movie. Along with that, the atomic lizard himself is the best he’s been in years. The action surrounding him is more meaningful than that of the other movies. Overall, it is one of, if not the, best Godzilla movies to date.

5. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies were incredible, and this latest installment did not break that trend. This third entry into this beloved series is just as funny and just as action packed as its predecessors, while also adding some gut-wrenching moments to stand out from the rest. The ending acted as a path to bigger things for some characters and a perfect send off for others.

4. Oppenheimer. The most detailed movie I saw this year, Oppenheimer, was an amazing showing of Christopher Nolan’s amazing writing and directing skills. It’s powerful, thought provoking, and intense. The visuals are breathtaking. If you haven’t seen it yet, then you need to.

3. Barbie. Barbie was one of the biggest commercial successes in 2023. Along with that, the movie inspired women all over the world with its empowering messages and its strong female lead cast. It was definitely one of the most influential movies of 2023.

2. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The second movie in the Spider-Verse trilogy, Across the Spider-Verse, did its job perfectly. It showed us the consequences of the previous film, expanded the universe, and set up the final part perfectly. Along with that, the animation was just as stunning as the first movie and the action was even better. With all of these positives likely carrying over to the final installment, I for one can’t wait to see what happens next.

1. Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The Hunger Games series has always been widely beloved so this prequel was saddled with grand expectations. It did not disappoint. Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was an incredible novel, and the movie reflects it perfectly. Everything about the movie is perfect, the acting, the music, the action, everything.
