Weight rooms are smelly places. There are lots of people sweating and some don’t even use deodorant, but the weight room at Sahuaro stunk for a different reason. The pipelines that were connected to the toilets were clogged, causing the pipes to burst and flood the weight room entirely. Sahuaro has been known, especially during the viral TikTok Devious Lics challenge that called for the destruction of school property, for stuffing full toilet paper rolls into the toilets.
Thankfully, weight training is not a huge class that deserves a whole lot to be graded on. Since it is a PE credit, some students were happy that they didn’t have to dress out or participate in any physical activities. They also got free “participation points” for just attending the class those days.
Sports coordinator, Coach Botkin states, “There was a water line that busted, so it was leaking down into the boy’s locker room and the weight room. The weight room was shut down for around three days.” The bathroom was also closed since the pipelines are connected to the weight room and boys’ locker room. The kids who had the class were able to go into the McConnell gym and play their sport of choice.
According to Jamaal McKraney, a student who has weight training, says, “The room being closed didn’t affect me. I could just play basketball in the main gym, but I wasn’t able to go into the boys’ locker room to change out.” Jamaal, being a very highly driven basketball player, would rather play basketball for a whole class period than lift weights in a smelly room for a whole class period.
When the pipes were clogged, they started leaking causing chipping in the back walls of the weight room. That part ended up getting moldy and was the main reason why the stench lingered in the room. The solution was to take down that part of the wall entirely, exposing the pipeline. Now there is a big hole in the left back of the room where the pipes are. Luckily (for some…), the weight room is fixed and can be in use again.
