Her Loss: Drake’s Collaborative 2022 Album
November 22, 2022
On November 4th, 2022, the rapper, Drake, released a collaboration album, Her Loss, with rapper 21 Savage.
The hip-hop album, which contains 16 songs, reached no. 1 on the Billboard 200, making it Drake’s 12th no. 1, and third leader for 21 Savage.
The album was published by OVO Sound, Republic Records, Slaughter Gang Entertainment, and Epic Records.
The album was originally announced with little publicity, with Drake just announcing it on October 28, 2022. The OVO record producer delayed the album’s release, making the release date November 4.
However, the album is not the first collaboration together. They have many hit songs, including Knife talk and Jimmy Cooks, both hits that went gold. It’s no surprise the album is a hit.
The 30-year-old rapper, Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, known as 21 Savage, grew up on the east side of Atlanta but was born in Newham, England. His career first started when he lost his friend on his 21st birthday, due to a shootout. The studio, for his first song, was sponsored by his friend’s uncle, who supported his rapping career. He then released the song Picky, produced by DJ Plugg on November 12, 2014. He included the song on The Slaughter Tape mixtape. From there, his career took off. His success ranges from the #1 song on Billboard’s Hot 100’s to winning to 2020 Grammy Award for best rap song.
The 36-year-old Canadian rapper, Aubrey Drake Graham, known as Drake grew up in Toronto, Canada. Surprisingly, the world-famous rapper didn’t start his career off with music. He was an actor in the television show, Degrassi: The Next Generation. Although he gained fame through acting, his true passion was music. He published a mixtape himself, Room For Improvement in 2006. After leaving the show in 2008 to focus on his music, it didn’t take him very long to have his first big break. The song, Best I Ever Had, was a hit in 2009.
From there, his career took off. His success ranged from winning multiple BET awards to Grammys. Both artists have amazing chemistry together in their songs. Many fans hope to have more future collaborations.
Personally, I love both artists and am a big fan of them both. The album was a different type of style than normal, but I think that it’s good to switch up the styles to keep future albums more unpredictable. I think that the next album will be as unpredictable, but as always, a hit.
