A: French braids

A: Nobody really, I just hated my hair lady so I stopped getting my hair cut!

Q: What is the craziest hair style that you have ever worn?

A: Cornrows, someone asked me if they could put my hair in cornrows and I said yes!

Q: What products do you use in your hair (What is your styling routine)?

A: I use the Maui Moisture shampoo and conditioner and some days I do a hair mask in the shower. But everyday I put leave-in conditioner on the bottom and braid it to get it out of my way! When styling, I scrunch it and use a diffuser because believe it or not, I have wavy hair.

A: 40 inches!

A: Hanging out with people I love, friends, family and my car

A: My nana and momma make me smile the most, especially recently.  They’re both such outgoing, yet silly, women who can always bring the best smile out of me

A: Not really, my sister has really cool green eyes

A: My elementary art teacher Miss Ross always encouraged me to keep doing art, and occasionally would quote Bob Ross

A: My most recent project of pants made for a client

A: Being a part of the school mural because a lot more people can see and enjoy it

A: I would do a collaborative mural downtown with local artist working together on a mural that portrays community and love because art should make you feel something!

A: Volleyball, track and field, basketball, student council, interact club, varsity club, unify in color, and choir!

Q: What is your biggest talent?

A: My biggest talent to me is stage acting, singing, makeup, and dancing like no one is around!

Q: What is something you’d need to improve before hitting the big screen?

A: What I would like to improve on the big screen is always trying to be positive in whatever role I’m in, no matter how small, and I would want to do better in all genres

A: My favorite celebs are Bradley Cooper and Ashton Kutcher, the reason why is because they can do any kind of genre whether it’s drama, suspense, comedy, and I feel like that’s just amazing talent. Another favorite would be Adam Sandler because he’s so humble for being a celeb!

A: I honestly have NO IDEA what celeb I look like lol, but when I had blonde hair most people said I looked like Adele or Rebel Wilson

A: I want to be most known for either acting/musical or as an influencer for body positivity!

Q: What instrument (s) do you play?

A: I play the flute and piccolo 

Q: Who gave you your first instrument and what was it?

A: I picked up the flute in 5th grade and loved it immediately and never stopped playing 

Q: How often do you practice?

A: Before the pandemic I would practice every other day sometimes every day if I had a lot to work on

Q: What is the best/worst part of playing it?

A: The best part is being with my friends and making something amazing, whether it’s in Sahuaro Band of the Tucson Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, I just love being surrounded by these wonderful people who love music as much as I do. I’d say the hardest part is pushing yourself to improve – that can be frustrating at times

Q: Who is your all-time favorite musician and why?

A: My favorite flute composer is Herman Beeftink and my favorite band is 5SOS. However my favorite musicians are in Sahuaro Band. They are all so talented and I love them all! 

 

Biggest Heart- Nathalia Valdez

Q: What is the kindest thing you have done for someone?

A: I think the kindest thing I’ve ever done was help an elderly couple get a pack of 64 waters into their car. I was leaving Costco and noticed that they really needed help, so I just stopped and offered a hand.

Q: What are daily acts of kindness you do?

A: On the regular I try to make people laugh, I definitely feel like laughing is the key to happiness, I never said my jokes were funny though…

Q: What is the meanest thing you have ever done to someone?

A: Um, last night I hid the control from my little sister because she wanted to change the channel. I’m sure I’ve done meaner things, but I can’t think of anything else to say.

Q: Other than you, who do you think has the biggest heart? 

A: Definitely my mom because she’s always there for all her kids, and I’d have to say Ms. Krause because she’s just been such an amazing teacher throughout this year.  She understands all the senior struggles and tries her best to make ever experience as normal as possible despite being online.

 

Funniest- Kailee Lemudue 

Q: Tell us the funniest thing that has ever happened to you?

A: I’m very scared of needles, so I was really nervous to get my first tattoo. The artist started doing his thing and he asks me if I’m doing alright. I said “yep perfectly fine!” Then probably 5 seconds later, I say, “Actually I’m feeling kind of dizzy.” I ended up passing out. When I woke up, I looked down to see how much progress was made before I passed out… there was one line. I passed out one minute into a 4 hour tattoo! 

Q: What is the funniest joke you have told? (Keep it clean please!)

A: I don’t really tell actual jokes that often, but I’ve often gotten a few people with deez, ligma, ect..

Q: What is the best prank you have pulled on a person or had pulled on you?

A: I don’t really pull pranks on people, but I like to scare my family and friends. I hide behind the corners, wait for them to walk by, then I pop out! Their reactions are quite funny.

Q: Who is your favorite comedian and why?

A: My favorite comedians are Cody Ko and Noel Miller. I chose them because we have the same sense of humor, they have a weekly podcast (TMG Podcast) that make me cry laughing almost every time I watch it. It’s just really fun to watch their videos, and one day I hope to get to see them live. I really like John Mulaney as well – he’s a close second!

 

Most Outgoing- Marcela Marcial 

Q: Have you ever suffered from shyness or anxiety? If so, how have you learned to cope with it?

A: I’ve never suffered from anxiety. When I was little, I was someone who loved to meet new people and experience new things 

Q: Do you enjoy presenting? If yes, what advice would you give to others who dislike it?

A: Tbh I don’t really enjoy presenting but I don’t mind either and a piece of advice I would give is to take a deep breath when feeling anxious and to practice your presentation so you don’t have to worry about messing up

Q: What advice would you give someone who is shy and doesn’t do well in large groups?

A: I’d say it’s ok to be shy, I understand that stepping out of your comfort zone is hard but everyone can do it little by little, even with crowds. When dealing with large crowds having someone you can trust makes it easier, it’s ok if you have to walk away because there’s too many people. It takes time, it’ll get better the more you try!

Q: What do most people not know about you?

A: Most people know that I’m on the swim team and that I love to have time with friends and family, old and new!

 

Best Friends- Ana Nelson, Mati Goerke, Ariana Rodrigez 

Q: When and how did you meet?

A: Mati- Me and Ariana met in kindergarten and then we were all on the same softball team when we were 8 and have played with each other since then! 

Q: Favorite thing about the other? Least favorite?

A: Ariana- I would say my favorite thing about Mati is that she is like the “mom” of the group and she’s always there for us. My favorite thing about Ana is that she is kinda crazy and always makes us laugh no matter what! Okay for least favorite for Mati I’ll say she’s a Libra( which I love) so she’s a bit indecisive hehe.. And for Ana we always spend  too much money together!

A:Ana- favorite thing about them is they can always make me laugh and I know they’re always there for me and least favorite is they like to gang up and make fun of me 🙂

A: Mati- Ana is definitely the crazy one of the group, she makes my bad moods turn to good moods. Ariana has been there for me since day 1, I know no matter what happens she’s there for me. The best part is the bond we’ve created with not only us 3 but our whole families. We’re all super close and I consider them part of my fam now. My least favorite thing is them always trying to get me to eat sushi with them even though I don’t like it !

Q: What do you think your life would be like if you hadn’t met your BFF?

A: Mati- my life would be very very boring..I wouldn’t have the most important people in my life who support me and everything I do Ana: we’ve been together for so long and we do absolutely everything together so I can’t imagine what life would look like without them. Ariana: I genuinely don’t know what I would do. We’ve been such close friends for so long, I basically consider them family. We do everything together and tell each other everything so life would be extremely boring and sad. I love the girls a ton and wouldn’t want it any other way! 

Q: If there were a movie about the three of you, who would play who?

A: Mati- Okay probably the girls from friends Ana as Phoebe, Ariana as Monica, and Mati as Rachel 

Q: Do you think you’ll be friends forever? Why?

A: Ana-Yes of course I think we will always be my best friends because we’ve become sisters now and no one can replace them.  Ariana- Like Ana said no one can replace my girls!

Q: If all three of you were stuck on a deserted island, who would survive and who would go crazy? 

A: Ariana- Oh gosh, Mati would definitely be the one to survive, Ana and I might go crazy! Ana- I agree!

Q: What sports were you involved in and how long have you been playing each sport?

A: I play basketball mainly but I’ve played volleyball and done track in the past I’ve been playing basketball for 14 years!

Q:  What is your favorite sports team?

A: My favorite sport team is Las Vegas aces 

Q: What is your best sports-related memory?

A: My favorite memories would be making a bunch of friends especially my best friend though basketball and sports

Q: What has been your worst injury while doing a sport?

A: My worst injury has been multiple concussions because you’re never the same after even once you’ve done rehab

Q: About how long does it take you to do your makeup?

A: I guess it would depend on what look I’m doing.

Q: Do you have any celebrity idols you model your makeup after?

A: Not particularly, but I love this local makeup artist @becomingeden’s work.

Q: Where do you buy your makeup, and what’s your favorite brand?

A: I love Ulta because it has both high end and drugstore makeup. My favorite brand at the moment is Juvias Place, it’s an affordable black owned brand with amazing products.

Q: What is the best compliment you’ve received on your makeup?

A: I don’t publicly post my makeup looks often, but when I do, I love every compliment I receive 🙂

Q: Who would you love to give a makeover?

A: I’ve always loved drag even though I haven’t attempted it myself, but I would love to get a makeover from Trixie Mattel.

Q: What business are you in?

A: I do nails and lashes as my small business. 🙂

Q: How long have you’ve been in business?

A: I just turned 6 months on April 13th!

Q: What’s your favorite part of having a small business?

A: My favorite part is seeing different people every day, and knowing that they’re trusting me in doing their nails/lashes. It brings such a good feeling when I know that they were recommended by one of my other clients. I also love seeing the end results in every set!

Q:What was your favorite part of having a small business?

A: My inspiration was to be able to give anyone a chance to get luxury wants for a cheaper price as I know prices are raising like crazy. And definitely my mom had a lot to do with it, she convinced me to go to Mexico during fall break to learn, since she knows I was struggling mentally during quarantine.

Q: Describe your tattoo.

A: My tattoo is a wave with tropical flowers, and on the side it has the letters LWR.

Q: What was the inspiration for your tattoo?

A: My childhood best friend passed away back in October, we met in kindergarten, and he’s been like a brother. As a first tattoo I knew this was something that I wanted to do in honor of him. Sadly though, I wish my first tattoo wasn’t a memorial of my best friend, but I’m still glad I got it and it has a deep meaning. It’s a part of me for life now, it gives me hope knowing wherever I’m at, he’s with me.

A: Old Town Tattoo Parlor!

A: $165

Q: Do you plan on getting more? If so, what and how many?

A: Actually within next month I’m planning on getting butterflies going off my shoulder where my tattoo is. Then as well getting a thigh piece done within this year. But the total of tattoos that I want is undecided, just know I’ll get as much as I can afford!

Q: What would your reality TV show be called?

A: I honestly never really thought about it but with everything that’s been happening I’d call it ‘Living Through the Motions’ because it’s been a crazy year.

Q: What kinds of drama would be on your show?

A: I’m never really in any drama myself, but my friends always let me know what be going on around school and stuff like that.

Q: What is your favorite reality TV show?

A: Most definitely bad girls club.

Q: Why do you think you won this category? 

A: I have no idea to be completely honest. I didn’t even know people knew me like that.

Q: Why do you think you were voted most optimistic? 

A: Uh I’m not quite sure. I just try to be as supportive and helpful as I can be when people ask for help, so maybe that’s why.

Q: How do you keep yourself from viewing the glass half empty?

A: I like to imagine that there is more in my cup than there really is. It reminds of when I was a kid, I used to blow in the straw of my Capri Sun and believed that by doing this, I was creating more of the juice. It created a mindset to think big.

Q: What would you advise fellow pessimists? 

A: Hey, I’m a pessimist towards myself, so I would say: take your time. You can’t change who you are within a day. Start by surrounding yourself with some positivity, and do what you love. Another thing is, you don’t have to be a 100% optimist, it’s best to be 50/50.

Q: How do you come out from rock bottom in your life?

A: You must deal with the lows in life in order to experience the highs. I always think about this in order for me to grasp the situation I’m in. I must deal with the struggles I have at hand and allow myself to overcome them even if it takes time.

Q: What is your favorite movie or play? Why? 

A: My favorite play would definitely be The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. It has an incredible concept that, when done correctly, will leave you in awe.

Q: Do you ever get stage fright? If so, how do you cope with it?

A: When I first began theater I would get stage fright, but the older students taught me how to better cope with it. My best advice is to find someone in the audience that you know that will make you feel more comfortable but won’t make you laugh. Pretend you’re talking to them when you speak out to the audience.

Q: What has been your favorite role that you’ve played? Why? 

A: My favorite role has been the role of mother in The Yellow Boat. It was a beautifully tragic one act about a boy who died from an AIDS infected blood transfusion. The final moments at the end during the last monologue left the audience in tears. In that moment you feel alive, knowing you put on the best show you could.

Q: Who is your favorite actor/actress? Why? 

A:  My favorite actress would honestly be Sarah Paulson. She is a phenomenal actress who leaves you at the edge of your seat, hanging on her every word. She is also incredibly versatile

A: My quarantine story is I got pregnant and had a baby.

A: I’d say everything, my personality and outlook on life especially. Once you glow up mentally, the physical traits follow along. It comes with confidence.

A: I just realized that I’m awesome. Also, I changed my style, I bought clothes I liked, realized how cute my natural hair actually was, and kinda just ran from there.

A: I helped a 74-year-old lady find her car in the mall parking lot when she was lost.

A: Honestly I don’t really think I’d be impeached. I’m not much of a troublemaker now, and I wouldn’t want to start as POTUS.

Q: What do you think is already great about America?

A: I think one of the great things about America is the American people’s ability to speak their minds and make change. The ability for people to speak freely doesn’t push them apart, it brings them together through understanding each other’s perspectives. And from that, change can be made.

A: My favorite thing to do in the kitchen/make is baking to be honest, especially baking cookies.

A:  If I were to open a restaurant, the special would be chicken eggplant parmesan because me and my mom love to make it.

A:  The worst cooking experience was attempting to make Eggs Benedict, I ended up scrambling the egg and I hated it overall because I don’t like eggs, or eggs cooked like that.
