After 28 legendary years, pop due Daft Punk has broken up. They announced their farewell on February 22nd, 2021 through a 7-minute long YouTube video from their 2006 film, Electroma, titled “Epilogue”. The video takes place in a sandy, deserted area and has the duo, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, walking away. One strays father than the other, then they come together. One takes off their Daft Punk jacket and turns around so the other can set off the self destruct timer. It’s a simple video with no words, but speaks on so many levels.

The band formed in Paris in 1993 and released their debut album, Homework, in 1997. This album contains some of their most known songs, such as Around the World and Da Funk. By time Discovery was released in 2001, they were starting to make a name and an image for themselves. This is when their robot costumes became their calling card. Singles Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger and One More Time made their presence in the music world even bigger. Twelve years later, Get Lucky blows Daft Punk up once again.

After their 2013 album, Random Access Memories, the duo had not made anything new besides collabing with artists such as The Weeknd and Kanye West. Daft Punk’s longtime publicist from Pitchfork, Kathryn Frazier, confirmed their split but an explanation was not provided.
