Lil Wayne Arrested
November 25, 2020
Rappers, old and young, either have to carry an image, came up a certain way, have certain mentalities, or they’re just careless. Either way, those things can often affect them negatively. Rap mogul and entrepreneur, Lil Wayne, is the latest of rappers to be affected by those things. He has been arrested and charged with possession of a firearm following an incident in which a gold plated pistol was discovered in his luggage. Wayne is best known for songs like ‘6 Foot 7 Foot’, ‘A Milli’, and ‘Mona Lisa’. The charge carries a potential 10-year prison sentence if he’s found guilty. His lawyers said that the rapper didn’t use his firearm in the incident, which took place on December 23, 2019. He’s a convicted felon, so he can’t legally be in possession of a firearm.
“There is no allegation that he ever fired it, brandished it, used it or threatened to use it. There is no allegation that he is a dangerous person. The charge is that because he was convicted of a felony in the past, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm, ” Howard Srebnick, Lil Wayne’s attorney, told CNN in a statement. Wayne pleaded guilty to a felony gun charge in 2009 as a part of a deal with prosecutors. That charge came from an arrest in 2007 in which a .40 caliber pistol was found inside his tour bus. He was sentenced to a year in prison, but was released after eight months.
He was arrested for the new charge on November 17. The hearing is scheduled for December 11th. Wayne is an older rapper by today’s standards, but he was still being careless when he decided to carry a gun on his person after being convicted of a felony in the past.
