When Britney Spears’ career first kick-started, she was an 11-year-old actress; beginning her career on the Disney Kid’s show The Mickey-Mouse Clubhouse. As time passed, she became America’s sweetheart, releasing pop-sensational music and songs that are still played on the radio today. However, with great fame comes great mental health issues. In 2008, Britney had a public meltdown- to which she shaved her head, lost custody of her kids, and suffered from a great immense of mental disorders. This was the downfall of her career.

After this situation, her father took to the courts to own a conservatorship on Britney, which she admits might have been necessary at the time, and that he really saved her career. However, now as a 38 year-old woman, with custody regained of her kids, health back on track, and financial needs met, she’s trying to get out.

After decades of fighting out of the law, she took to court on November 11th to try to get out of the situation. However, it was denied. According to Britney’s lawyer, Samuel Ingham III, Britney stated that she would stop performing and remove herself from the industry if her father was still involved. The lawyer stated that Britney really just wants “a clean slate” and her mother Lynne Spears agrees.

Contrasting to Britney’s side, Vivian Thoreen, Jamie Spears’ lawyer, says, “When you look at what Mr. Spears has done, it speaks for itself.” Jamie Spears has stated that he took her in a state of debt, to making her worth over $60 million dollars. He also takes credit for bringing Britney “good health, reuniting her with her children, and reviving her career.”

After both sides were heard, Judge Brenda Penny of the Los Angeles superior court, denied Britney’s pleads on the case, saying that she wouldn’t mind hearing out a similar case in the future about this situation. Which is exactly what Britney’s lawyers are planning to do: fight.

So after decades of the Spears conflict, fans have been outraged by it all. Initiating hashtags like #FreeBritney, or protesting outside of the court for her on the hearings. They’ve done everything in the book to show support for their idol, making this case pressurized by the public, but conflicted by law.
