This final debate covered serious topics such as COVID 19, immigration, federal relief, China, race in American policies, and climate change. At the very end each candidate was asked what they would say on Inauguration Day to Americans who did not vote for them. Each candidate having different responses, here are the most crucial things addressed in the debate.

One of the most important moments in this debate was when Biden vowed to ‘transition from the oil industry.’ This topic emerged when Trump was asked to respond about families living near the oil refineries. Trump responding “(they) are employed heavily, and they’re making a lot of money.”  Which led Biden to argue that those living on the “fence lines” are exposed to many risks and in future health conditions “he doesn’t understand this,” Biden says. Trump goes on to ask Biden if he was going to “close down the oil industries” leading Biden to say that he is going to transition from them. “It has to be replaced with renewable,” said Biden.

Catch and release, which refers to a practice of releasing a migrant to the community while he or she awaits hearings in immigration court, as an alternative to holding them in immigration detention, was another thing debated between the politicians. President Trump claimed, “catch and release is a disaster. A murderer would come in, a rapist would come in, a very bad person would come in. We would take their name. We have to release them into our country. And then you say they come back. Less than 1 % come back.” According to Transactional Records Access Clearinghouses (TRAC) a study proved that 81% of immigrant families do return to their court hearing which debunks Trump’s claim.

Biden also mentioned that Trump compared himself to Abrham Lincoln which is incorrect. What Trump actually said was that he believed he is the president that had done the most for the African American community since Abraham Lincoln.

As you can see this debate was not much better than those of the past, but we were definitely able to obtain more information than the last Trump – Biden presidential debate.
