21 Savage and Metro Boomin’s highly anticipated ‘Savage Mode II’ album finally released Friday. This was a great start to October for 21 Savage fans (and rap fans in general) who have been waiting for this album for over four years.

The first ‘Savage Mode’ album released in July of 2016. That album is called a “classic” by many. The second ‘Savage Mode’ album was just as good, if not better, than the first one; 21 and Metro are known for their great chemistry when working on songs together. This album was not an exception.

This is widely considered as one of the better albums of 2020. It’s projected to debut at No. 1 on next week’s Billboard 200. According to HITS Daily Double, “The esteemed project will garner somewhere between 170,000 to 195,000 equivalent album units.” This would put the album at somewhere between the 8th to the 10th highest selling album of 2020.

21 even managed to get Morgan Freeman to narrate the album! He appears on several songs, either narrating the beginning or end of those songs. Freeman has an entire 57 second interlude on the album called ‘Snitches & Rats (Interlude)’ where he defines the difference between a snitch, rat, and a witness. Freeman says that he decided to narrate the album because,”The theme of the album steers away from the ‘nice guy’ roles he’s often offered.” He also explained how he connected with the album’s subject matter. “I read the copy and was like wow, there’s some wisdom in here,” he details. “I think this is the way I think. It’s basically saying don’t suffer fools and when you want something go for that.” The addition of Freeman’s narration generated a very unique twist to the album. I’ve never personally heard an album as heavily narrated as this one. The fact that the narrator was Morgan Freeman just added to the affect.

Overall the album was very good and somewhat surprising. Even though it was widely expected to be a good album , it turned out to be great: from the beats, to the lyrics, to the narrations.
