You know and aspire to be her. Megan Thee Stallion, was shot in the foot during a heated fight on July 12th following Kylie Jenner’s no-mask pool party.

On August 20, Megan Thee Stallion claimed that rapper Tory Lanez was the gunman who shot her in the foot following a July 12 pool party at Kylie Jenner’s house — the first time she publicly identified him, or anyone, as her shooter. In an Instagram Live video, Megan alleged that Lanez’s publicist was intentionally attempting to spread false information about the shooting, for which she was hospitalized and underwent surgery. “Yes, this **** Tory shot me,” Megan said in the video.

While Lanez was arrested on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, he was not charged for allegedly shooting Megan. Police claimed to have had a hard time finding witnesses to attest to the claims made and early reports state that Meg’s injuries were caused by broken glass, not a gunshot.

In her video, Megan admitted that she didn’t tell cops what happened, explaining she thought the LAPD was “aggressive” — while recognizing she should have been up front immediately.

“I didn’t get cut by no glass, but let me tell you why they’re saying that,” Megan said. “When the police came because the neighbors called the police… the police come — I’m scared. All this **** going on with the police… I didn’t want to die. I didn’t want the police to shoot me cause there’s a ***** with a gun in the car with me.”

Megan claimed that she was in Lanez’s car with him, his bodyguard, and her friend, and that the four were arguing. Megan, who was in the front seat, left the car. She alleged that Lanez shot her through the car’s back window. Megan insisted that rumors she had hit Lanez were ‘bogus.’ She also claimed that the shooting did not relate to Tory Lanez’s purported romantic interest in Kylie Jenner, according to TMZ.

After Meg’s claims were made public, Tory Lanez released his album Daystar. The record alternatively finds Lanez fuming over the accusations, begging Megan Thee Stallion to come back to him, and griping about how his career has taken a hit. Just look at opening song “Money Over Fallouts”:

“Gotta see a couple questions: how the **** you get shot in your foot, don’t hit no bones or tendons?/
How the **** your team is tryna to pay me in some whole millions?/
I just lost like ten million dollars because this cold business.”

Within four sentences he calls Megan a liar, claims her team is trying to pay him off, and bemoans the accusations’ impact on his finances. The song goes deeper into his bewailing of cancel culture, with him rapping, “they was on the blog sayin’ I’m canceled from this entertainment/ I was on that Spotify like thirty million monthly listeners, I’m ****** goin’ crazy.”

A source close to the situation alleged to Billboard on September 29 that Lanez’s team sent several emails to media outlets pretending to be members of Megan Thee Stallion’s record label, 300 Entertainment, in order to “campaign press” on his behalf. The source also claims that his team fabricated text message conversations between Lanez and Megan and sent them to various outlets.

Black women are almost three times as likely to experience death as a result of DV/IPV (Domestic Violence/Intimate Partner Violence) than White women. And while Black women only make up 8% of the population, 22% of homicides that result from DV/IPV happen to Black Women and 29% of all victimized women, making it one of the leading causes of death for Black women ages 15 to 35. “Statistically, we experience sexual assault and DV/IPV at disproportionate rates and have the highest rates of intra-racial violence against us than any other group. We are also less likely to report or seek help when we are victimized,” TIME magazine reported.

LAPD has yet to move forward with the case.
