Talent vs. Troll
September 10, 2020
New York rapper 6ix9ine is known for his antics and “trolling” in the music industry. This often leads to him butting heads with other artists. The latest of these artists is Chicago rapper Lil Durk. Durk is a 27-year-old rapper from the South Side of Chicago. He’s known for his songs ‘Laugh Now Cry Later’, ‘No Auto Durk’, and ‘3 Headed Goat’, along with many more. Even though he’s gone back and forth with multiple Chicago artists, Durk’s beef with him is probably the most followed.
This beef started when Durk appeared to take shots at 6ix9ine in his song ‘Laugh Now Cry Later’. The line that many believe to be directed at 6ix9ine reads, “Can you not play that lil boy in the club? Cause we do not listen to rats.” 6ix9ine is widely known as a “rat” or “snitch” because he testified against his accomplices in court during trial in order to lessen his own sentence.
They then continued to take shots at each other on twitter and instagram live for the weeks following. 6ix9ine then traveled to Chicago, where he left flowers outside of O-Block in honor of Durk’s deceased cousin Nuski. Durk along with several other Chicago rappers took offense to this.
Chicago rapper King Von took to instagram to voice his opinion on 6ix9ine’s antics. “That s**t with 6ix9ine, that s**t ain’t cool.” Durk then reported that someone from 6ix9ine’s team reaches out to him and offered 3 million dollars to keep their beef going. Durk declined the offer. To top all of it off, Durk and 6ix9ine both released projects on Friday.
Durk released a single called ‘The Voice’, and 6ix9ine released an album called ‘Tattle Tales’. Tattle Tales was, at first, estimated to sell 100k-150k copies the first week of it’s release, but that number was recently updated and it is now expected to sell only 50k copies the first week.
Although Durk’s song was on a single, many believe that he had the better release this past Friday.
