CEO and founder of Amazon Jeff Bezos said he would be committing a whopping ten billion dollars towards the fight against climate change, a world-wide crisis he is very passionate about. On February 17th, 2020, Bezos announced the initiative calling it the Bezos Earth Fund in an Instagram post. The Bezos Earth Fund will support scientists, activists, non-governmental organizations and “any effort that offers a real possibility to help preserve and protect the natural world,” he said.

“Climate change is the biggest threat to our planet,” he said. “I want to work alongside others both to amplify known ways and to explore new ways of fighting the devastating impact of climate change on this planet we all share.”

Bezos says that he will begin issuing grants in summer 2020.

In September of 2019, Amazon announced a pledge to meet the goals Paris climate agreement ten years early and be carbon neutral by 2040. In that announcement, Amazon said it was launching a fund committing $100 million to restore and protect forests and wetlands.

He also announced that he would be measuring and reporting Amazon’s total emissions on a regular basis to keep Amazon as eco-friendly as possible after last years’ threat of a walk-out calling on Amazon to do more to combat the climate crisis.
