Trends 2020 Does Not Need
February 26, 2020
Are trends as funny as people think they are? The thing about trends is that some are unique, funny, weird, or just overall annoying. When it comes to new trends coming up on social media, it can be a hit or miss. There are a few, if not a lot, of trends that should not have been repeated more than three times. I’m here to tell you what trends that no one wanted, nor needed.
First and foremost, there was a trend in 2019 on TikTok of people opening up tubes of ice cream, licking it, and then putting it back in the freezer. There was also a redundant amount of videos of people throwing a slice of cheese at a driver’s window while on the road. Who in their right mind decided it was a smart idea to lick ice cream for views?? Now, I am always skeptical about buying ice cream that doesn’t have a seal. I find it absurd how people go as far as having the potential of getting fined for a couple of hundreds of views. Tina Le, my sister, said, “Please don’t throw things. I almost could’ve gotten into a car accident because of it.” I understand its for comedic purposes, but never once have I cracked a smile. To this day, I am hoping a TikTok I saw of a female throwing cheese at a car and then the video cutting to a car accident is not real. Kids, please do not do irrational things in hopes of your posts blowing up. It is NOT worth it.
You can call me boring, but do not say anything close to “ok boomer” around me. “Ok boomer” was funny and cute during the first week it popped up on my feed, but then it just died on me. Paul, the brother, finds the term “ok boomer” “stupid and repetitive to the point he doesn’t want to hear it anymore.” If you’re trying to argue with an adult who is twice your age, please, come up with something better that is not a meme/song. Pro tip: study your vocabulary terms your English teacher makes you learn, so you can have a grandiloquent vocabulary. Just then, you can burn an adult with them having no clue what you said. Whatever a Vsco girl was, should never have existed. Having an app and owning metal straws is not a personality trait. I said what I said. Some of y’all about to get mad at me, but it must be said, those white bulky Filas should be burned by Elmo himself. How did people see the potential of buying the white Filas? It should have been left at the store hun.
At the end of the day, trends come and go as fast as the length of a single TikTok (15 seconds.) People will move on and find something else to rave about. There’s a chance Twitter stans will love it or bash it with a retweet. Whether I will dislike an upcoming trend or not, I can’t do anything about it. Everywhere I turn around, I get reminded how strange us teenagers are.
